The government extended the lockdown for an additional month till 30 June

Mizoram chief minister Zoramthanga on Tuesday said that 12 fresh coronavirus cases were reported in Zoram Medical College. On Monday, the government extended the lockdown for an additional month till 30 June.

The decision was taken after a continuous rise in COVID-19 cases, especially its neighboring northeastern states and therefore the return of an outsized number of stranded people from other states.

Meanwhile, in Manipur, the medical fraternity at Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences, Imphal has created another landmark during the continued fight with COVID-19 by treating a month old baby from COVID infection.

The baby alongside his mother who had returned from Chennai was found of COVID-19 positive on the 20th of May and admitted at the Isolation Facility of JNIMS Hospital of Imphal for further treatment. The baby was found negative on the 35th day last night. His mother was also found negative and both of them are going to be sent home today.

Reportedly, speaking exclusively to AIR News this morning,

Director of JNIMS Prof. Th. Bhimo said, treating a toddler for any slightest of infection is extremely difficult. However, the medical team of JNIMS Hospital has treated the baby and other people needn't stress much about COVID-19. It can be treated and avoided if people follow the rules issued by the Government of India and other reputed organizations. He said that Viral Research and Diagnostic Laboratory of JNIMS tested record 803 COVID-19 samples yesterday till late night and therefore the laboratory is trying to extend the capacity more to satisfy the necessity based on the count of returnees reaching Manipur a day. This is the best number of samples tested during a day thus far.

The first COVID-19 tolerant Manipur was treated successfully at JNIMS and therefore the government rewarded the medical team of JNIMS for his or her dedication and expertise within the field recently.

At the same time, the Nagaland Government has decided to continue lockdown until further orders. During a notification issued yesterday, Chief Secretary Temjen Toy said that each one of the prevailing guidelines with reference to the lockdown in all parts of the state-issued on the 4th of last month will still remain operative till further orders.

The government has issued a new standard procedure for returnees to Nagaland. As per the new SOP, the returnees by the Special Train from Chennai who returned to the state on 22nd May are still at Quarantine Centres in Kohima and Dimapur. they're going to still remain at the present places until their COVID-19 tests are done.

It said, those persons who test negative are going to be sent to their home district beside those test positive, but don't require hospitalization and are fit to travel under special transportation after following all the required health protocols to be kept at the COVID-19 Hospitals for treatment. Those persons tested positive and showing symptoms requiring hospitalization are going to be shifted to the COVID Hospitals for treatment.
