Have you ever wondered, why exactly is junk food bad for us? Yes, fast food is delicious and tasty. But it can reduce your life span, make you obese and increase the chance of a heart attack. This is because fast foods and junk food is often fried along with large quantities of salt, sugar and carbs.

Here are 5 reasons why you should avoid eating fast food - 

Obesity 

Since fast food is nutritionally low, the body will force you to eat more, to make up for the low nutrition intake. This will make you intake large amounts of calories, resulting in weight gain. There is also a chance one will binge-eat when it comes to their favourite food. 

Bloating

To enhance the flavour of junk food, most of them come with heavy quantities of salt. One must consume 1500 mg of salt per day, whereas most junk foods like burgers and pizzas contain 2,300 mg in a single item. Salt or sodium makes the body retain more water, making you feel bloated and puffed up.

Lethargy

After eating high amounts of fast food you are likely to feel lethargic and lazy. The primary cause behind this is that such foods are low on nutrients, which is the body’s energy source. Most of the junk food is made of sugar, flour and empty carbs, there is nothing nutritionally valuable.

Extra pressure Heart, Digestion and Kidneys

Your digestion track will have a hard time digesting the oily and refined flour made junk food. The high salt levels will also affect the heart and kidneys. It can even spike your blood sugar levels.

Bad Mental Health

Junk food can also result in damaged mental health. Research found that people who daily eat junk food are 51% more likely to develop depression. It also increases the chance of developing anxiety and mood disorders.
