5 Ways to fix your gut health - Medicircle

The gut microbiome affects the overall functioning of the human body. Here are some common signs of an unhealthy gut and tips to fix them.

A healthy gut means a healthy digestive system. And a good digestive system promotes the overall functioning of the human body. Unhealthy eating habits and an inactive lifestyle is the prime cause of an unhealthy gut. An unhealthy gut shows various signs and symptoms.

Stomach Ache – Constipation, diarrhea, heartburn, gas, bloating are all signs of an unhealthy gut. These need strict consideration and should be fixed asap. The imbalance of the gut promotes the residence of bacteria in the GI tract. Thus, it may cause stomach ulcers and bad breath.

Immune health – The gut microbiome corresponds to the immune system of the body. When the gut is healthy, so is your immune system. 70% of your immune system resides in the gut. Hence to have stronger immunity, it’s important to maintain your gut health.

Skin infection – Unhealthy gut increases skin sensitivities. Due to this dermatitis, eczema, psoriasis, and acne become common.

Sleep disturbances – An imbalance gut may cause insomnia and sleep disturbances. As serotonin is produced in the gut, its imbalance may affect sleep quality. And lack of sound sleep may further result in fatigue. The person may find difficulty in performing basic day-to-day activities.

Ways to fix it

Healthy eating – The foods you eat have a direct effect on the gut. You may include fiber and complex carbohydrates in your food to promote good bacteria. Also include healthy fats and lean proteins. Avoid processed and sugary products as they encourage imbalance.

Probiotic diet – Probiotics supplements and fermented foods can help in bringing back your optimum gut health. These support overall digestive health. Fermented foods like yogurt contain beneficial bacteria thereby promoting gut health.

Relaxation techniques for stress – Yoga, meditation, and exercise may help you in relieving stress. Good quality sleep will also help in curbing stress and will also support gut health.

Physical activity – Exercise can also aid in getting your gut in a balanced state. Aerobic exercises like walking, running may help increase gut bacteria. A sedentary lifestyle is one of the main causes of imbalance in gut health. So, get up and keep going.

Know your triggers and avoid them – Some people may have food sensitivities. Taking these foods may cause gut imbalances in them. The key to good gut health is to know your food triggers and avoid their consumption.
