Postpartum Depression is a special type of depression in women after the birth of a child. Most mothers feel stressed and depressed after having children. This is called Postpartum depression. After the birth of the child, the mother also becomes very emotional, due to which the mother comes to cry over small things and starts feeling irritable in nature. This condition leads to depression. Many times mothers start experiencing depression from the time of pregnancy but they do not even know about it. Let us know what happens and why Postpartum depression happens.

What is postpartum depression?

Postpartum depression is more common in first-time mothers. After the birth of a child, many new responsibilities come to the mother. Women get stressed due to sleeping all the time, taking care of the baby, cleaning work, and dealing with their own physical weakness after delivery. During this, many physical-mental changes take place in women, so they are not able to remain stable. During the time of depression, there is always sadness and tension in the mind of the mother. Many times the mother is not able to even tell these things to anyone, due to which it increases further.

After becoming a new mother, the sudden lack of sleep and taking care of the baby all the time makes the mother very tired. Due to this, she becomes a victim of Postpartum depression. 

Time of Postpartum depression 

Although the time of postpartum depression can be different in every woman, in most cases, the phase of depression can last for 4 to 6 weeks. Be sure to seek a counselor's help in case of postpartum depression.

Why is Postpartum depression caused?

Postpartum depression can also be caused by changes in the levels of estrogen and progesterone hormones in the body. Many times, women also become victims of postpartum depression due to a lack of help from the family in taking care of the baby.

Symptoms of postpartum depression

  • Crying without reason
  • Always tired
  • Getting angry over small things
  • Negative thoughts 
  • Lack of interest
  • Failure to bond with baby
  • Self-injury thoughts

How to overcome postpartum depression?

  • Have a healthy diet and get plenty of sleep.
  • Take the help of family members to take care of the baby.
  • Share your heart with family or friends.
  • Do something that you can enjoy.
  • Take a walk or do some light exercise by asking the doctor.

If post-mortem depression persists, seek the help of a doctor. Be sure to let family or friends know about your state of mind.
