According to a recent research report on thyroid cases in Northeast India, there has been a noticeable increase in the prevalence of thyroid disorders, particularly in Manipur and its neighbouring states. According to The Indian Thyroid Society, 4.2 crore Indians are suffering from thyroid disorders with almost 90 per cent undiagnosed. Thyroid Cancer is the most common endocrine malignancy. Radio Iodine therapy, also known as radioactive iodine therapy, involves utilising radioactive iodine to target and destroy cancerous thyroid cells while minimising harm to surrounding healthy tissue.

Dr Sapam Ranjan Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Govt of Manipur, expressed his enthusiasm about the introduction of Iodine Therapy, stating, "The launch of Iodine Therapy at AOI represents a significant milestone in our commitment to providing comprehensive cancer care services to the people of Manipur and neighbouring regions. With this advanced treatment modality, patients no longer need to travel long distances to seek specialized Cancer care, as they can now access state-of-the-art treatment right here in Imphal."

Iodine Therapy, now available at AOI Imphal, offers a targeted and effective solution for managing thyroid disorders. This advanced treatment modality utilizes radioactive iodine to selectively destroy thyroid tissue, thereby reducing the size of thyroid nodules and alleviating symptoms associated with hyperthyroidism and thyroid cancer. As radioactive iodine therapy requires a special set up, AOI Imphal is fully equipped with a separate isolation rooms and drainage system.

Dr Dhabali Thangjam CMD Babina Diagnostics, emphasized the importance of bringing advanced Cancer care services to the region, stating, "Iodine Therapy fills a critical gap in cancer treatment options available in Northeast India. By offering this innovative therapy at AOI Imphal, we aim to improve accessibility to quality cancer care and ensure that patients receive the treatment they need close to home."

Manas Majumder, Facility Director at AOI Imphal at Babina Specialty Hospital and Dr Oinam Sanahanbi Director Health Services Govt of Manipur, highlighted the benefits of Iodine Therapy for patients, saying, "Iodine Therapy offers several advantages, including targeted treatment of thyroid nodules, reduced risk of recurrence, and minimal side effects compared to traditional treatment modalities. This therapy represents a significant advancement in the management of thyroid disorders and holds great promise for improving patient outcomes."

The introduction of Iodine Therapy at Imphal underscores AOI's commitment to advancing cancer care and improving patient outcomes in Northeast India. With this advanced treatment option now available locally, patients can receive world-class care without the need for extensive travel, ensuring timely access to life-saving treatments. AOI, Imphal continues its mission to bridge gaps in cancer care, addressing challenges related to geographic barriers, and cultural differences.
