Sikkim CM calls for enforcement of complete lockdown in Rongli and Pakyong subdivisions

Sikkim Chief minister PS Tamang today called for enforcement of complete lockdown in Rongli and Pakyong subdivisions in East Sikkim from 6 am tomorrow to contain the spread of COVID19. The decision was taken at an emergency meeting of the State Task Force convened at Gangtok today to discuss the recent spike in cases in these subdivisions.

The Chief Minister directed immediate restriction on the movement of persons into official residences of ministers and MLAs. He further called for an immediate restriction on the return of employees and workers of all private companies for the next fifteen days. However, central government employees should be allowed to enter after thorough screening and testing.

Mr. Tamang directed the state administration to assess and monitor quarantine facilities of the Army and paramilitary forces including the General Reserve Engineer Force (GREF). He also called for immediate up-gradation of quarantine facilities in Rongli and Pakyong, and consider home quarantine to manage the increase in cases.

The Chief Minister also directed to limiting the number of returnees from other states and complete restriction on inter-district movement of vehicles for at least fifteen days, in addition to the restriction of intra-district movement.

Chief Secretary SC Gupta informed that in Rongli and Pakyong Subdivisions, some cases have been detected in the community, and the government will ensure 100 percent testing of each person entering Sikkim at the entry point.

According to a health bulletin issued yesterday, Sikkim reported a total of 153 COVID19 positive cases so far, of which 66 are active, while 87 people have recovered and discharged.

Nagaland records 33 new COVID-19 cases

Nagaland today recorded 33 new COVID-19 positive cases, taking the total tally in the state to 878 so far.

Health Minister S Pangnyu Phom in a tweet informed that 33 more positive cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed. These include 24 cases in Kohima, three in Dimapur, two in Peren and Longleng and one each in Mokokchung and Zunheboto districts.

The active cases stand at 538 while 13 people have recovered from the viral infection during the last 24 hours, taking the total number of people cured so far to 340.

Assam govt starts mass testing at Pandu area in Guwahati
In Assam, the Health department has started mass testing at the Pandu area in Guwahati. Health workers are visiting house to house to conduct the Covid-19 test from today and are expected to conduct 3000 tests in 2 days.

598 new cases were detected in Guwahati City yesterday. Assam has 4 thousand 623 active cases as on date. Meanwhile, Jorhat Deputy Commissioner has announced total lockdown at Jorhat municipal area from 9th July to 15th July.
