Be Inside When Sun is Outside

"Heat exhaustion is a precursor to heatstroke."

Heat Stroke popularly known as Sunstroke is a dangerous condition in which your internal body temperature rises above 400C. If it is ignored, it could lead to damage to internal organs. The easiest way to stay healthy this summer is by drinking a lot of water. Drinking water by adding flavors to it makes it more enjoyable. We should drink 8 glasses (2 liters) of water every day.

Symptoms  

Vomiting, Headache, Nausea, Fainting, Muscle Weakness, loss of appetite, rapid breathing.

Measures to prevent Sunstroke

Keep your body hydrated - Staying Hydrated protects you from losing too much liquid from your body in the form of sweat.

Wear loose clothing - Wearing loose clothing keeps you cool because it doesn’t touch your body, at the same time protecting you from harmful sun rays.

Apply Sunscreen – We should apply sunscreen regularly whenever we going out. Sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher is preferable.

Avoid going outside during daytime - Less exposure to the sun means less risk.

Avoid drinking alcohol and coffee too much - As these are a dehydrating agent, so better to avoid.

Avoid heavy exercises.

Eating food such as watermelon, muskmelon, cucumber, etc. which is high in water content.

First Aid to be given

Make the person lie down with their feet slightly up.

Move the person to the air-conditioned area. 

Put them in a cold water shower.

Fan them vigorously.

Apply ice pack in sensitive places close to blood vessels. These are best to place around the neck, armpit, groin, back, and inner knees.

Make them drink lots of water. 

Body temperature should be check regularly.

People who are having diabetes, high BP, mental illness, or on medicine such as antihistamines, diuretics, or heart are at a higher risk for sunstroke. 

Be Inside when Sun is Outside

Swimming can be a good way but always remember to drink water and apply sunscreen before going in.

Can explore malls, museums, library which are having Air Conditioner.

Can go to a theater for watching a movie.

Heat Exhaustion is a precursor to heatstroke. So, if u feel exhausted after spending some time in the sun, go and drink some water and move to some cool place.

Precautionary steps while stepping out

The summer season lasts from Mar to Jun. Out of these, the hottest month is considered to be May. In this month one can feel heat waves which are generally called as "loo" in our country. Take essential precautionary steps if you are stepping out of your home this season. Fill a spray bottle and refrigerate it while going out. Try to wear cotton clothes. Never leave your children or pets in the car on a hot day. A parked car can quickly reach up to 120 degrees Fahrenheit. So, it is recommended to get your pet outside the car and leave them in a shady area. It is very much important to take out the children before parking a locked car.
