Bihar aims to test 1 lakh citizens per day

A review meeting was held with the Chief Ministers of 10 states through video conferencing on the updated status of COVID-19 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar also participated in it.

During this, CM Nitish said that, since July, cases of Corona infection have increased rapidly in Bihar. So far, there are 82741 corona positive patients in the state, out of which 28151 are active patients. 54139 patients have gone to their homes after getting healthy and so far 450 people have died.

He said that the state's recovery rate is 65.43 percent. Positive cases have come down from 7.5 percent to 5 percent due to the number of investigations already. The death rate of the state is 0.54 percent. So far, a total of 10,97252 people have been tested for corona infection.

The Chief Minister said that, we are continuously working to increase the number of corona infection investigations every day. Now 75 346 investigations are being done every day. 6100 investigations are being carried out by the RTPCR machine, in which 4900 investigations are being done at government investigation centers and 1200 at private investigation centers. 4400 tests are being done by the True-Nat machine and 65000 tests are being done by rapid antigen kits.

He said that a check-up has been arranged till the Primary Health Center. 100 percent in all containment zones
The investigation is being done. Flood relief centers and community cook centers are also being investigated for corona infection of all people.

The Chief Minister said that, in order to deal with corona infection in the state, three-tier treatment has been made available. There are 310 COVID Care Centers, 150 Dedicated COVID Health Centers and 10 Medical Colleges dedicated as Health Hospitals. At present, 32 124 beds are available, whose number is being increased to 70000. 10 482 oxygen-rich beds are available, in which oxygen is being supplied to the beds through 2482 oxygen gas pipes and 8000 oxygen cylinders.

He said that free medical facilities are being provided to the people living in home isolation. Telemedicine and medical kits are also being provided to them. Daily health information of patients is being sought through call centers.


Nitish Kumar said thanked the Central Government for PM Care Fund assistance in building two 500 bedded COVID Hospitals at Bihta and Muzaffarpur near Patna. The population density of the state is 1102, which is much higher than the national population of 382. Due to high population density, we have to work harder to deal with the circumstances, he added.

He said that we are investigating above 75000 every day. But the most important investigation in this is the RTPCR investigation, which is currently being done only in the number of 6100. Efforts are being made to increase their number. RTPCR investigations are being arranged in 5 more government medical colleges, jacking the number of investigations to 2300. Soon, 10 RTPCR machines and RN extractor machines will be purchased, which will increase the capacity of 5000 tests.

He said that the Central Government is requested to make two Kovas-8800 machines available to Bihar, which will increase the number of investigations by 7200 daily. In this way, we will be able to conduct RTPCR investigation 20 600 per day. He said that 5000 oxygen concentrators with a capacity of 10 liters or more should be supplied so that the number of beds containing oxygen can be increased soon.

The CM said that the Central Government is requested to provide 3000 high flow nasal cannula so that oxygen can be easily available even to patients with severe symptoms. With this, 40-60 liters of oxygen per minute can be given to the patients.

The Chief Minister expressed that, we aim to have more than 1 lakh corona infections checked every day. In Bihar, we want to test all the people, so that the corona infected can be identified and protected. People are being made aware of the corona movement. More than 90 percent of people are now using masks, following social distancing.

He said that people above 65 years of age, children below 10 years of age, pregnant women and people suffering from other serious illnesses are being advised to move out only when necessary, otherwise they are allowed to stay in the house. Corona infection is spread all over the world and it cannot be said how long it will last he added.
