What is Dysmenorrhoea?

Dysmenorrhoea is also known as menstrual cramps which is a gynecological issue experienced by menstruators during their reproductive age. This is not considered a symptom of an underlying disorder but is generally associated normally with monthly cycles. Pain during menses occurs during the regular breakdown of the uterine lining during menstruation. This is likely to cause some discomfort, inconvenience, and pain. It may interfere with daily activities causing stress and fatigue along with weakness. This pain is known to typically start several hours before or with the onset of menstruation. It may last for 1-3 days and this cycle may vary from person to person.

It has been reported that as per data, 80% of women of the reproductive age group experience pain during menstruation. This is commonly high in adolescents and teenagers. It is also commonly associated with females who have co-morbidities like diabetes, obesity, hypertension, or thyroid-related disorders.

Dysmenorrhoea is triggered by an increase in E2 and F2a prostaglandin production within the secretory endometrial cells of the uterus.
