Latest news update on COVID-19 from north-east states

In Manipur, the 14 days statewide complete lockdown and curfew began this afternoon as a preventive measure against the spreading of COVID-19 in the State.

Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh announced last evening that the State will be put on 14 days complete lockdown after few people without any travel history were found positive. The decision to impose total lockdown and curfew was taken during an emergency State Cabinet Meeting held last evening.

The entire area of Manipur has been put under complete lockdown and curfew from 2.00 PM today for 14 days. In spite of the appeal from the Chief Minister to stop panic buying, people are seen in long queues in front of shops and petrol pumps this morning. Roads were busy with vehicles and peoples thronging for markets to buy essentials items to be stocked for lockdown period. Just before the imposition of lockdown, police intensified patrolling the roads and appealing the people to stay inside their homes. The  Chief Minister has informed media persons yesterday that the State government has pledged to enforce the guidelines and restrictions of lockdown and curfew and impose fines for those who violate it. Out of the 2060 total positive cases so far recorded in Manipur, 1418 cases have been discharged from the hospital. The recovery rate stands at 68.83%.    

Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh said yesterday that health experts who are members of the State Consultative Committee on COVID-19 were taken into confidence before the decision to enforce lockdown was taken.

In Mizoram, nine fresh Coronavirus positive cases were reported yesterday taking the total number of cases in the state to 326. 11 patients have recovered from coronavirus in the past 24 hours. According to an official statement, presently there are 147 active cases and 179 patients have recovered from coronavirus infections.

In Nagaland, 90 people tested positive for COVID-19 today taking the total number of affected people in the state to 1,174. This is the single highest spike in the number of cases so far in the state.

In a tweet, Health and Family Welfare Minister, S Pangnyu Phom said that 61 new cases have been reported from Kohima and 25 from Dimapur. 688 people are under treatment while 486 have recovered so far in the state.

Meanwhile, Nagaland Health and Family Welfare Department have clarified that the COVID-19 cases detected yesterday were 54 and not 57.
