WHO launches Covid19 tracing app
The World Health Organization (WHO) plans to launch an app this month to enable people in under-resourced countries to assess whether they may have the novel coronavirus, and is considering a Bluetooth-based contact tracing feature too, an official told Reuters on Friday.
The app will ask people about their symptoms and offer guidance on whether they may have COVID-19 the potentially lethal illness caused by the coronavirus, said Bernardo Mariano, chief information officer for the WHO. Other information, such as how to get tested, will be personalized according to the user’s country.
Though the WHO will release a version on app stores globally, any government will be able to take the app’s underlying technology, add features and release its own version on app stores.
Migrant Train from Odisha scrapped
The Surat district administration cancelled departure of trains from Surat to Odisha following a Odisha High Court’s order on Thursday. The Odhisha HC has ordered to bring the stranded migrants into the state only after conducting their Covid-19 tests in the host states.
District collector, Dhaval Patel said, “All trains towards Odisha stands cancelled from Friday onwards following Odisha HC order for conducting Covid test of the migrants. There are about 3 lakh Odiya migrants wanting to go to their home districts. The district administration does not have the facility to conduct tests of such a huge population.”
75 BSF jawans tests positive,death toll at 2
Two Border Security Force personnel have succumbed to coronavirus disease (COVID-19) while the force has reported 41 new cases of infection, the paramilitary force said on Thursday.
The first BSF jawan, critically-ill patient, died after he had contracted the infection while visiting super speciality clinics for his treatment.
Other jawan died on May 4 in Safdarjung hospital where he was admitted on May 3, the BSF said. He was shifted to ICU on May 4 from the normal ward, the force said. The COVID-19 test was done after his death and the result came back positive by late Wednesday night.
"Prahari pariwar is grief-stricken with deaths of two BSF personnel during this pandemic," the BSF said.
"DG BSF and all ranks mourn the untimely demise of the corona warriors of BSF. BSF fraternity conveys condolences and stands firm with the bereaved families," it said.
"Braving the challenges of securing frontiers, working with civil administration and while shouldering other essential responsibilities 41 new COVID-19 positive cases have been reported since yesterday. Most of these BSF personnel have been aiding civil police in duties during this critical phase of COVID pandemic," it added.
