COVID-19 cases in Jammu and Kashmir at 1,489

In Jammu and Kashmir, 40 new positive cases of COVID-19 were tested yesterday, taking the tally in the Union Territory to 1,489. Seven from Jammu Division and 33 from Kashmir Division, were reported positive today. Out of total cases, 749 are active cases, 720 have recovered and 20 died in in the Union Territory so far.

Now, the toll of positive COVID-19 cases are 218 in Jammu Division and 1,241 are in Kashmir Division. Moreover, 36 more COVID-19 patients recovered and discharged from various hospitals, one from Jammu Division and 35 from Kashmir Division.


Till date, 1, 28, 8517 travellers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been enlisted for surveillance which included 32, 077 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 73 in Hospital Quarantine, 749 in hospital isolation and 25, 132 under home surveillance. Besides, 70, 466 persons have completed their surveillance period.On the positive side,the Union Territory of J&K breaks the 5,000 tests a day barrier as more than 5,000 samples were tested today. The positivity rate of the UT stands at 4.6 per cent whereas the mortality rate stands at 1.9 per cent.

To cooperate with the administration people in Kashmir continued to stay indoors and avoided holding any religious congregation connected with Shab-e-Qadr and Jumat-ul-Vida due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

People are strictly adhering to social distancing norms and other government guidelines issued from time-to-time in an effort to prevent the spread of virus.

According to reports, there were no congregational prayers held in Srinagar on the occasion of Jumat-ul-Vida, which is the last Friday of the holy month of Ramazan. People continued to stay indoors as was advised to them by religious clerics as well as government authorities in an effort to prevent the spread of Coronavirus pandemic.

The Masjids and Shrines including Dargah Hazratbat and Jamia Masjid in old city areas of Srinagar city remained locked for the devotees as a precautionary measure in the wake of Coronavirus pandemic.However, amid lockdown, authorities eased restrictions in certain areas where markets opened and people were seen buying the essentials ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.

Meanwhile,almost all the stranded people of Kargil from various parts of India have been evacuated. Evacuation of the stranded passengers, patients and students from Srinagar is almost completed as well.

The whole process was coordinated by the Nodal Officers and Students volunteers of Kargil in Srinagar. Passengers have appreciated the whole evacuation team. The team has successfully coordinated and evacuated more than 3,000 passengers of Ladakh stranded in Srinagar.

Student volunteers have also provided the passengers with ration and essential commodities. They have assisted in preparation of lists and arrangement of passes.
