Delhi government announcement brings relief to parents

On Friday Delhi Education Minister Manish Sisodia addressed a digital press conference on the hike of fees by the private schools. He said any private school cannot hike the fees.

Speaking to the media, Sisodia said the government has taken this decision after it came to light that private schools were increasing their fee, even when the country is facing such a difficult time.

The minister stated that it has come to my notice that many schools are taking fees arbitrarily and charging transportation fees even when schools are closed. He further said that private schools should not stoop to this level. Be it private or government schools, they cannot hike fees. The five points taken from the press conference are:

Any private school in the national capital cannot raise the fees without the government's permission.

The schools are closed due to the COVID-19 outbreak so any school will not take the transportation fee or annual charge.

The three-month fees are collected in Delhi schools but as per the prevailing scenario, schools cannot demand a fee for a quarter or three months.

Any student will not be forbidden from attending online classes due to the fees.

The one-month tuition fees will only be taken by the schools in Delhi.

The minister said, "If any Private school was found violating the order, the Delhi government will take stern action under Epidemic Act and Education Act against violators".The country is under a lockdown till May 3 due to the Coronavirus crisis.
