On Wednesday, Delhi crosses 15000-mark in COVID-19 with 792 fresh Coronavirus infections recorded in the last 24 hours—the highest spike in fresh cases in a single day taking the tally to 15,257. The coronavirus death toll in Delhi piled up to 303.

Delhi, according to the official data, has a total of 7690 active cases of COVID-19. For more than a week, Delhi reported 500 or more fresh cases every day. Maintaining the same trend, the first time the national capital recorded a spike in the number of cases above 700 in a day.

According to the daily bulletin released by the Delhi health department said that the COVID-19 fatalities have risen to 303.

"Total 792 new cases were reported and the positive cases in the city reached 15,257. At least 7,264 patients have recovered from coronavirus so far in Delhi while 7,690 cases are active," the Health Department was quoted as saying.

On May 25, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had said that it was expected to have a slight increase in the COVID-19 cases because of the several relaxations given during the lockdown 4.0 phase. The Delhi CM, however, asserted that the situation was under control and his administration was ready to deal with any situation.

"It has been one week since the (fourth phase) lockdown began. After one week, I can say that the situation is still under control and there is no need to panic," Kejriwal was quoted as saying."I will be concerned when two things happen. First, there is a significant increase in death cases and the second thing is the collapse of the health care system due to sudden spike in cases due to which no bed is available in hospitals...." he had further added.

According to the real-time figures on the website of the Union Health Ministry, the total number of Coronavirus infection cases has soared to 1,51,767 in the country. The death toll due to COVID-19 has reached to 4,337. The number of active coronavirus cases stands at 83,004 and 64,425 people have recovered so far.

Another high-ranking Delhi Police official is tested positive with Coronavirus.

DCP North Monika Bhardwaj is tested positive for coronavirus on Wednesday.

The officer had complained of being under the weather and decided to get tested for the viral infection. The officer is currently in-home quarantine and three of her personal staff have been subjected to quarantine.

DCP Bhardwaj claims fame in November last year when there was a confrontation between police and lawyers at Delhi's Tis Hazari court.

Bharadwaj was seen in a video urging for peace along with her team before a group of lawyers chased them away from the scene.

Bhardwaj is the second DCP to test coronavirus positive in Delhi after an additional DCP posted in Shahdara was also found to be coronavirus positive.
