Dengue fever – Diet tips for faster recovery

There is a spurt in the cases of dengue in almost the entire country. Let’s be more aware of its symptoms, and precautionary measures to protect one and all.

Dengue is a mosquito-borne viral infection caused by the dengue virus. Dengue virus is transmitted by a female mosquito named Aedes aegypti. In order to stop the transmission, it is important to maintain a clean surrounding in which there is no chance of mosquitoes breeding or multiplying.

Back in 2019, Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved a vaccine namely Dengvaxia to help prevent the disease from occurring in adolescents aged 9 to 16 who have already been infected by dengue. However, there is no vaccine to prevent dengue preventive care. But there are certain foods whose consumption can help you in overcoming or combating the disease.

Symptoms

  • Fever
  • Muscle
  • Joints pain
  • Headaches
  • Severe medical complications like a hemorrhagic fever that further results in bleeding and low levels of blood platelets

Papaya leaves – The leaves have antimalarial properties. Consumption can help increase the platelet count which is crucial while suffering from dengue. You must take two fresh papaya leaves, crush and squeeze them, and extract the juice.

Coconut water – Dengue fever causes dehydration and this is where coconut water can be a savior. Coconut water contains essential minerals and electrolytes and can replenish the body with lost liquids or nutrients. It can help in faster recovery by strengthening the body that can fight off the infection well.

Kiwi – This fruit contains a rich amount of vitamin A, vitamin E, and potassium to achieve equilibrium for the body’s electrolytes. Thereby it limits the blood pressure also. Also rich in copper, it helps increase the red blood cells and boost immunity.

Pomegranate – Iron is extremely beneficial for blood and pomegranate has abundant iron. It helps maintain the normal blood platelets and provides energy to the body. It can help reduce fatigue, and exhaustion while suffering from dengue fever.

Broccoli – It is full of vitamin K and antioxidant properties which can be useful in boosting platelet count. And platelets play a very important role in recovery from dengue.

Porridge – It is easy to swallow and digest quickly. It maintains the inner body’s strength and has effective nutrients that can keep viruses at bay.

Precautionary measures against dengue fever

  • Use mosquito repellent
  • Avoid water from getting stagnant on the terrace or at home
  • Wear full sleeve clothes.
  • Maintain a clean surroundings.
