How are HIV and AIDS Transmitted?

Antiretroviral therapy (ART) drugs, commonly known as the "cocktail," can effectively manage HIV and prevent the progression to AIDS. These drugs work by suppressing the replication of the virus and reducing the amount of virus in bodily fluids, which in turn reduces the risk of transmitting the virus to sexual partners or unborn babies.

HIV is a disease that does not discriminate. Anyone can contract this disease, which is why it is important for people to be aware of how to protect themselves and prevent the transmission of HIV.

Globally, there are an estimated 38 million people who have HIV. Despite the virus only being identified in 1984, more than 35 million people have died of HIV or AIDS related illnesses, making it one of the most destructive pandemics in history.
