The Union Government said that the total number of recoveries from COVID-19 in the country has reached over 23,38,000. COVID-19 recovery rate in the country has improved to 75.27 per cent. In all, 57,469 people have been cured of coronavirus during the last 24 hours.

The Health Ministry said, the recoveries of COVID-19 patients in the country are more than three times the active cases.A single-day spike of 61,408 cases took India's Coronavirus caseload to 31,06,348. The death toll climbed to 57,542 with 836 fatalities being reported in a span of 24 hours. There are 7,10,771 active cases of Coronavirus infection in the country which comprises 22.88 per cent of the total caseload.

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research, more than six lakh tests have been conducted during the last 24 hours. The total number of samples tested for Coronavirus Infection so far has reached over 3 crore 59 lakhs.

Meanwhile, the World Health Organization has cautioned that using blood plasma from COVID-19 survivors to treat other patients is still considered an experimental therapy. The United Nations agency today that preliminary study results are inconclusive and more rigorous research is underway. Yesterday, the US Food and Drug Administration authorized what’s called emergency use of the treatment under its special powers to speed the availability of promising experimental drugs.

WHO's Chief Scientist Dr Soumya Swaminathan during a press briefing said that so far, the results are not conclusive. At the moment, it is still very low-quality evidence.

Convalescent plasma is a century-old treatment that was used to fight off flu and measles outbreaks in the days before vaccines, and was tried more recently during the Ebola outbreak.

Dr Swaminathan said, WHO considered plasma therapy to be experimental and that it should continue to be evaluated. She said the treatment is difficult to standardize: Plasma must be collected individually and people produce different levels of antibodies.

Covid-19 cases the world over have reached 2 crore 32 lakh, 8 thousand 492 mark. USA has maximum number of cases in the world with the tally of over 56,68000 cases. Brazil has second highest cases with over 35,82000.

Globally, over 8,04000 people have lost their lives to COVID-19 so far.US has maximum deaths from the disease at over 1,76 000. Brazil has second highest rate of deaths due to pandemic with over 1,14000 while Mexico with over 60,000 fatalities is third.
