Irregular periods – The best food tips

A lot of things can affect your menstrual cycle. Apart from stress, medicines, age, thyroid, lifestyle is the main factor that affects your menstrual health. The food you consume, physical activity levels, and your sleep cycle play an important role in governing your menstrual health.

An irregular period is when you don’t get your menstrual cycle after every 28 days or your menstrual cycle falls outside of your regular range. It is generally caused due to an imbalanced estrogen hormone or improper blood flow in the pelvic area. It can be considered as

  • Bleeding or spotting between periods
  • Bleeding after sexual intercourse
  • Heavy bleeding during your period
  • Menstrual bleeding that lasts longer than normal

A lot of things can affect your menstrual cycle. Stress, medicines, age, and thyroid are some of them. But the main factor is the lifestyle, following an unhealthy lifestyle could easily take you to irregular periods. The food you consume, physical activity levels, and your sleep cycle play an important role in governing your menstrual health. 

Food that might help in overcoming the problem of irregular periods

Papaya – The main active ingredient present in papaya is carotene, which stimulates and regulates estrogen levels in the body. This also helps relieve menstrual cramps.

Ginger – Magnesium and vitamin C present in ginger help in getting periods regularly. It kind of normalizes your menstrual cycle.

Carom seeds – Carom seeds have antispasmodic qualities; they work best in relieving menstrual irregularities. They are also responsible for stimulating the uterus.

Turmeric – This has numerous health benefits. From being antiseptic to anti-inflammatory, turmeric plays a vital role in our food items. With multiple benefits, it is found to improve the regularity of periods.

Beetroot – It contains iron and folic acid in rich quantities. These constituents help to reduce bloating during periods. It can also regularize the disturbed menstrual cycle.

Cinnamon – It is usually hot in nature. Thus, it warms up the body from within and increases blood flow. Adding cinnamon to your food, not just enhances the taste of food but is also good for your health. 

Pineapple – It is known to increase red and white blood cells in the body. It also regulates the blood flow and uterus lining during menstruation.

Aloe vera – Just like turmeric, even this has multiple benefits. It manages the hormones and regulates the period.

Avoid

  • Packaged and canned food items
  • Too much of oils and masalas in food
  • Refined flours and sugars
  • Carbonated beverages

Follow
