Help pours in for Jyoti Kumari taking care of her all the needs

Jyoti Kumari Paswan, the other name of courage is getting recognization for her brave act from all the quarters. The Union MoS Shri Ashwini Kumar Choubey yesterday announced that he will be nominating her as National Health Ambassador, a first for India. Jyoti Kumari who brought a bicycle with the meagre savings of her family and cycled her sick father for 1200 km, from Delhi to her village at Darbhanga.

As her story became known, numerous people from politicians to NRIs, business tycoons to buraecrats are coming forward to support her. Her story had so far reaching effect that even Ivanka Trump retweeted her story and congratulated  for her courage and resolve. Yesterday Bihar government announced that they would take the responsibility of the schooling while Super 30 fame Anand Kumar has offered to sponsor her for higher education.

Other help came in form of cash and kind as former CM of UP, Akhilesh Yadav transferred Rs 1 Lakh to her account while Bihar government has already started to build a bathroom at her house. During a video call yesterday former Bihar CM Rabri Devi also offered her to support through her education and marriage, when the day comes.

On the other hand, her invitation from the Cycling Federation of India still holds good and she is already practicing for the trial. Omkar Singh, Chairman, Cycling Federation of India said that once the frenzy is over they will invite her for the trial and mould her to a top cyclist. Union Law Minister Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad has already asked Sports Minister Kiran Rijiju to identify her talent. For now, Jyoti is waiting for the lockdown to end so she can attend her school again.

For now, Jyoti Kumari has reached more destinations she tried for, but the lakhs of the migrant workers who wanted to reach their home were not so lucky. During the past few weeks, we have seen one after another tragedy unfold across the nation as the hapless workers tried to reach their home on foot, trains and buses, or trucks. The deaths onboard the Shramik Specials due to lack of food and exertion led to workers alighting by pulling the chain or looting the food stalls. Charging the migrant worker's steep ticket prices by Railways also did not help them as they were looking into bleak future with most of the savings gone to survive the lockdown.

Moreover, the workers who tried to reach their destination on foot were looted by the bus and trucks while struggling for food and water. So much so the Supreme Court had to intervene and order the states to take care of the migrant workers. The court directed that no money should be charged and adequate food and water should be arranged at all major stations and onboard.

After the Supreme Court order, the Ministry of Railways has appealed, that persons with comorbidities, pregnant women, children below 10 years and persons above 65 years of age, should avoid travel by trains except when it is essential.

The appeal was made in view of the few unfortunate cases of deaths related to pre-existing medical conditions while traveling, have happened.

The Ministry said that Indian Railways has been running Shramik Special Trains on a daily basis throughout the country to ensure that migrants can travel back to their homes. It has been observed that some people who are availing this service have pre-existing medical conditions that aggravate the risk they face during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The ministry said Indian Railways is working 24X7 to ensure that rail services are provided to all the citizens of the country needing to travel and is planning to transport 45 lakh passengers in the next few days. It said, the safety of passengers is the biggest concern and it seeks the cooperation of all citizens in this matter. It said, in case of any distress or emergency, passengers can reach out to the Railways Helpline number 139 and 138.
