Several progressive steps have been initiated by the Goverment to curb child death, malnourished child and improve the health condition of the mother & child in the state. However, report shows the fact otherwise.
Latest report received from Health Ministry, Maharashtra stated that 1,402 babies died at birth in Mumbai in 2018 while the rest of the state saw 13,070 such deaths that year.Between April 2019 to December 31, 2019, the figures for stillborn and infant deaths stood at 2,147 and 11,066 respectively.

Health Minister Mr Rajesh Tope while highlighing those issues has confirmed that the cause of the death of the newborns included premature birth, low birth weight, infections, pneumonia and respiratory distress syndrome.Being the richest state of India if still such issues persists, experts say that this should be the main concern for the Government. Almost a third of india's babies weight less than 2.5 kg at birth. The causes range from mother's poor health to infections and congenital anomalies. It shows that though Central & State Governments are trying to bring down child & maternal mortality but still the results are not very encouraging.

Social Activist Mr Vivek Pandit opined that though in paper the Government's schemes looks very impressive , whereas, actually the implementation of these schemes are very shoddy. The poor sections are n't properly benefited from those schemes. While giving examples he has highlighted that the delayed Govt.'s payment at anganwadi by five to six months is one of the main reason that pregnant women & children are not properly fed. Anganwadi at rural & tribal areas are the worst hit. He has alsor aised the issues like child marriage, poverty, unemployment and lack of education are also responsible for this grave situation.
