India’s Coronavirus case tally has shot past 26,000-mark on Saturday with the biggest single-day largely driven by Maharashtra and Gujarat as the two States accounted for 1,067 of the 1,975 cases on Saturday.

The total number of cases rose to 26,917 according to the Health Ministry, of which 20,177 are active cases. The overall tally also includes 826 deaths and 1 migration. With over 7,600 cases, Maharashtra has the greatest number of confirmed cases of infection in India, followed by Gujarat with more than 3,000 cases and Delhi is close enough with 2,600 cases.

Govt relaxed lockdown order for standalone shops selling goods situated in residential areas and they are starting to open in various parts of the country. However, this order is not applicable to shops in containment zones or hotspots and would remain closed.

The chorus of states willing to try this promising method of treatment is growing louder in the absence of a vaccine. Delhi, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Karnataka, and a number of other states have sought permission from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) to treat critically-ill Covid-19 patients with the plasma of patients who have recovered from the same infection. According to experts, the plasma of recovered Covid-19 patients has antibodies that can strengthen the immune system of patients under treatment.
