“Daily care should involve eye exercise, along with washing the eyes with water and limiting the time spent on the screens and mobile,” says Dr. Sandeep on caring for your eyes due to increased screen time since everyone is working from home

Ophthalmology is a branch of medicine and surgery which deals with the diagnosis and treatment of eye disorders. An ophthalmologist is a medical doctor (MD) or a doctor of osteopathic medicine (DO) who specializes in eye and vision care. Ophthalmologists are trained to perform eye exams, diagnose and treat disease, prescribe medications, and perform eye surgery. They also write prescriptions for eyeglasses and contact lenses.

Dr. Sandeep Garg is an Ophthalmologist/ Eye Surgeon, Eagle eye Hospital, Chembur, Mumbai and has an experience of 19 years in this field. Some of the services provided by him are Cataract Surgery, Laser Refractive & Cataract Surgery, Diabetic Eye Checkup, Corneal Transplantation, and Orbital Trauma, etc. He advises on how to care for the eyes as everyone is working from home which has led to increased screen time.

Limit the screen time

Everyone is working from home for the past 3 months due to the pandemic; the screen time for adults as well as the kids has increased since the school classes are also online, it has to lead to increased eye stress due to the virtual meetings and classes. Dr. Sandeep throws light on what should be done to take care of the eyes on a daily basis, “Since the eye is the most important and sensitive organ of our body, daily care should involve eye exercise, along with washing the eyes with water and limiting the time spent on the screens and mobile,” he says.

He has a few important guidelines for people to follow during this COVID situation so as to keep their eyes protected from the infection:

  • Use protective glasses
  • Do not touch the eyes
  • Consult a doctor when you notice redness or watering of the eyes

How to avoid optical pressure?

Dr. Sandeep suggests that “Optical pressure can be avoided by taking measures like Having a good sleep, no rubbing the eyes and regular eye check-up,” he says.

Eye checks are important

According to Dr. Sandeep, eye checkups should be added in a complete body profile examination since they are mostly not taken into consideration when it comes to health.
