North-East Coronavirus Update for Meghalaya, Nagaland, Tripura, Mizoram ; August 8, 2020

Meghalaya reports 16 new COVID 19 cases In Meghalaya, 16 new COVID 19 cases were reported today taking the total number of active cases to 590 with 66 new recoveries. Health Minister AL Hek informed media that to date 411 patients have recovered from COVID and five have lost their lives. So far Meghalaya has detected a total of 1006 cases.

Nagaland reports 77 new COVID cases Nagaland today reported another 77 cases of COVID-19. One death has also been registered today while 5 patients have recovered from the disease. Health and Family Welfare Minister S. Pangnyu Phom in a tweet the total confirmed positive cases in the state stands at 2,657, of which 1,824 are receiving medical care at the designated COVID-19 hospitals and COVID care centers. While 824 have recovered and seven persons have succumbed to COVID-19 so far.

Tripura: Highest single-day COVID fatality reported with 6 deaths In Tripura, six more persons lost their lives yesterday. This is the highest single-day COVID related fatality report in the state so far. With this, the death toll has risen to 36 which is second highest in the entire Northeastern region of India while Assam being the highest. Meanwhile, another 128 persons have tested positive out of 2764 test samples taking the total number of positive cases to 5761. So far 3,860 persons have recovered while 1,826 COVID patients are undergoing treatment.

Mizoram: 19 fresh Coronavirus positive cases detected In Mizoram, 19 fresh Coronavirus positive cases were detected today till this afternoon. Out of the new cases, 18 are truck drivers and one local person. They were tested positive out of 320 people tested with Rapid Antigen Test till this afternoon. According to an official statement, more than 600 trucks are stranded on the highway between Thingdawl and Sethawn village in Kolasib district and their tests are going on. As per the latest official report, total number of COVID-19 cases in the state has reached 539 and total 288 patients have been discharged after recovery from the infections. While the number of active cases presently stands at 251.

Nationally, a single-day spike of 61,537 cases and 933 deaths reported in the last 24 hours.The COVID-19 tally rises to 20,88,612 including 6,19,088 active cases, 14,27,006 cured/discharged/migrated and 42,518 deaths, according to the Ministry of Health.

The total recoveries have jumped to 13,78,105 with recovery of 49,769 patients in the last 24 hours. Ramped up hospital infrastructure and emphasis on efficient treatment of hospitalized patients through the Standard of Care incorporated in the Clinical Treatment Protocol issued by the Centre, have effectively ensured improvement in the recovery rate. The average daily recovered cases (7-day moving average) have increased from around 26000 cases to 44000 cases in the last 2 weeks.
