‘My Family, My Responsibility’ campaign gives extremely encouraging results in fight against Coronavirus in Mumbai

In Mumbai, aggressive and successful house-to-house campaign of ‘My Family, My Responsibility’ by the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai since September has given extremely encouraging results in fight against Covid.

According to the civic body, the number of active positive cases have fallen by over 29 per cent at present. Besides, even the number of sealed buildings have reduced by 30 per cent, whereas containment zones have went down by 13 per cent.

It was reported that the rate of infection in Mumbai has fallen down steeply from 1.06 per cent to 0.41 per cent since past few days. The slowing down of doubling rate of COVID-19 has also gone above 171 days.

The MCGM said the death rate due to Covid for the month of October was 2.5 per cent & cumulative death rate has further declined from 4.4 per cent to 3.9 percent. Against average daily testing of around 6.500 in August, the average daily RT PCR testing has been around 14,000-16.000 now.

With recovery rate touching 89 per cent, the number of critical patients in hospitals have dropped by 24 per cent.

An MCGM official said more than 1.5 lakh citizens were fined for not wearing masks/spitting and another 5 lakh citizens would be fined this month, if found without masks or spitting in public space,to create mass awareness for benefits of wearing masks.

Dr Harsh Vardhan said in a conference, “Following COVID appropriate behaviour is the key to combating the pandemic till we have a vaccine ”. He has further added, “ In the coming festival and winter season, the virus poses potential threats. It becomes very important to follow COVID Appropriate Behaviour to cut the transmission of virus. Whenever there is a laxity in following basic precautionary measures, the country has suffered.”
