North East Coronavirus news update August 10

In Mizoram, 27 fresh positive cases for coronavirus were detected while two patients were discharged after recovery during the last 24 hours. According to the official statement, the total number of COVID-19 cases in the state has reached 620 with two patients migrating to Assam. So far, 298 patients have been recovered from the infections, while 322 patients are undergoing treatment.

In Meghalaya, 39 new COVID 19 cases were reported yesterday taking the total number of active cases to 566 while 67 individuals also recovered. Director of Health Services, Dr. Aman War informed the media that out of the new 39 cases, 18 were from East Khasi Hills district, 20 from Ri-Bhoi district and one case from East Jaintia Hills district. The total number of recoveries has reached 490. So far the total number of confirmed cases detected in Meghalaya stands at 1062 which includes 566 active cases, 490 recovered and six deceased.

The Manipur Health Department has advised people of the State to stop wearing/using Chlorine dioxide releasing Cord Device "VIRUS SHUT OUT' made in foreign countries which is being used among the general population. The Spokesperson of the State Health Department said through a press hand out that the use of the device has increased among the public. Chlorine dioxide is an aqueous solution and used in the disinfection of drinking water. The virus destroying capacity in the spray form or slowing emitting gas form is not yet established. The State Health Department said it does not recommend the use of such unproven devices in the prevention of COVID-19 pandemic.

In Manipur, the device is being sold at almost all the medicine shops in the State at escalated rates due to huge demand.

Meanwhile, in the past twenty-four hours, 118 people including 28 personnel from the Central Armed Police Force have tested positive for COVID-19 while 117 people were discharged from hospitals after recovery in the state.

The total number of affected people in Manipur has reached 3753 so far. Out of them, 2044 people have recovered while 1698 people are under treatment. The recovery rate is 54.46 percent.

Meanwhile, Government-owned Power Finance Corporation Ltd (PFC), India's leading NBFC, today signed an MoA with District Administration of Siddharthnagar in Uttar Pradesh for construction of two Modular Operation Theatre Rooms in the District Hospital, Siddharthnagar. Under the MoA, PFC will provide financial assistance of close to Rupees Ninety Four Lakhs for the execution of the Project to the District Administration, Siddharthnagar under its CSR initiative.

Shri M. Prabhakar Das, CGM (CSR&SD), PFC and Dr. Dinesh Kumar Chaudhary, Dy. CMO, Siddharthnagar signed the agreement on behalf of respective organizations.

The pact is intended to provide the necessary support to the Siddharthnagar District Administration to develop the necessary infrastructure in order to reduce Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) and Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) in the catchment area. The infrastructural development would also help in reducing the Neonatal Mortality Rate (NMR) in the adjoining areas of the district.
