Quitting smoking can minimize the risk of lung cancer drastically

Smoking is causing 90% of total lung cancers. To stay protected from lung cancer, one needs to quit smoking at any cost. Read on to know the lung cancer symptoms, risk factors, and prevention tips.

The cancerous cells that are formed in the lungs are called lung cancer. Generally, lung cancer is asymptomatic in its early stage, significant symptoms can be seen only in the advanced stage. Some of the symptoms include

  • Chronic cough
  • Blood in sputum
  • Chronic chest pain
  • Difficulty in breathing
  • Weight loss
  • Tiredness, weakness, fatigue
  • Hoarseness of voice

Risk factor

Smoking is considered the main risk factor for lung cancer. 90% of lung cancers are because of smoking. The chances of developing lung cancer mainly depend on the frequency and duration of smoking. Products containing tobacco consist of more than 7000 chemicals, most of which are cancer-causing chemicals.

Passive smoke or second-hand smoke (smoke from other people's cigarettes) is more dangerous than normal smoking. Passive smokers inhale tobacco smoke along with other harmful environmental pollutants which can extremely damage the lungs.

Quitting smoking decreases the risk of lung cancer by 50%.

Lung cancer prevention

Avoid passive smoke – Keep yourself away from passive smoke. Create awareness amongst the general public regarding passive smoking. Brief them about the side effects and adverse effects of smoking and passive smoking. If any of your family members smoke or is occasional smoker, speak to them, counsel them, make them quit smoking.

Quit smoking – One should quit smoking as soon as possible. The chances of developing lung cancer mainly depend on the frequency and duration of smoking. Try to reduce the frequency day by day or else you can also seek the help of expert doctors for its alternative method.

Avoid toxic chemicals at work – The employee should avoid inhaling the chemicals of the chemical factory by properly adhering to the work procedure described by the company. The employees should always wear masks. Test your lungs frequently. Otherwise, try to switch jobs.

Eat healthy food – Eat a well-balanced diet that is full of nutrients and vitamins required by the body. Include fresh fruits and vegetables in your diet. Avoid taking supplements for vitamins and nutrients, try to consume their raw natural sources.

Physical activity – This is a must for a healthy body. Regular exercise strengthens the immune system. Diet and exercise are two vital aspects of a healthy body.
