Gujarat is in the eighth spot in terms of active cases in the country

In Gujarat, the total number of COVID 19 cases crossed 52,000 marks after a total of 1,078 cases reported on Thursday. It was informed that this is the highest single-day spike reported so far.

Meanwhile, the State Health Department said with 12,348 active cases, Gujarat is in the eighth spot in terms of active cases in the country. Although the highest 256 cases were reported from Surat district, the number of discharges was also highest in Surat.

On Thursday, as many as 205 patients were recovered in the district, while the total number of patients who got discharged from various hospitals across the state was 718. The state reported 28 deaths on Thursday, taking the death toll to the pandemic to 2,257. So far over 5,92,000 tests have been conducted in the state.

In the other news update from Chennai, 68 of the police personnel who recovered from Covid-19 returned to duty today.
They resumed their duty as frontline warriors after the mandatory quarantine period. They were welcomed by the city police commissioner Mahesh Kumar Agarwal and other senior officials. In Chennai, 1616 police personnel were infected with the virus so far and 1188 of them have reported back to work after recovery.

In Tamil Nadu, several districts outside Chennai are witnessing a surge in the new cases of Covid-19. However, the state health department says constant efforts are being taken to keep the disease spread under check. Reports say a cursory look at the age-wise breakup of the Covid-19 infection in Tamil Nadu gives an interesting account.

Nearly 83% of the infection is among the people of working age group and adolescent youth, ranging from the ages of 13 to 60, as they move out often. The senior citizens of 60 age come a distant second, contributing to a little over 12%. The remaining 5% is being reported from among the children of age from 0 to 12.

However, the mortality among children is almost nil, while the fatalities among the senior citizens in percentage terms are rather high. The graph shows the mortality rate and age are in direct proportion. Therefore, the health department takes additional precautions in the cases of senior citizens.

News received from Bihar, the recovery rate of Coronavirus has improved to over 66%. 1,083 patients recovered during the last 24 hours. 20,959 patients have so far been recovered. 10,519 patients are undergoing treatment in various hospitals.

Positive cases have gone up to 31,691 with fresh cases of 1,625. A total of 217 people have lost their lives so far.

In a related development, the Election Commission has deferred by-elections of Valmiki Nagar Lok Sabha seat due to the pandemic and prevailing flood situation in the state.

Meanwhile, the Bihar government has ordered to increase beds in COVID hospitals from Eight thousand to 13 thousand. One lakh rapid antigen Kits were provided to different districts to increase the testing facility. The health department has been instructed to ensure the results of the Covid-19 tests within 24 hours.

Over 4,19,000 tests have been conducted in different hospitals.
