In a bid to prevent the spread of coronavirus, the state has stopped all examinations and instructed college and school staff to work from home till March 25.

According to India Today report 3-year-old tests positive for Covid-19 in Mumbai, both parents also infected. Maharashtra total now at 39.Her diagnosis came after her father, who had returned from the US and her mother also tested positive for Covid-19.According to doctors at Mumbai's Kasturba Hospital, the child's father, 37, has a history of travel to the United States. He tested positive for Covid-19 earlier and was kept in isolation at the Kasturba Hospital. His daughter and wife, 33, were also kept in isolation and later tested positive.

On Monday, six new coronavirus cases were diagnosed in Maharashtra, taking the total number of Covid-19 positive cases in the state to 39 -- the highest in India.

In a bid to prevent the spread of coronavirus, the state has stopped all examinations and instructed college and school staff to work from home till March 25.

The profiles of the five new patients tested positive for Covid-19 at Kasturba Hospital are:

One female patient from Mumbai aged 44 from Mumbai's Bhandup area. She has a travel history to Lisbon, Portugal and landed in Mumbai on March 13. She is admitted along with one high-risk relative. Authorities have conducted a community survey and identified two low-risk contacts and kept them under 14 day-surveillance.

Two patients are the wife and daughter of a patient from Kalyan, aged 37, with travel history to the United States.

Two male patients in their forties from Navi Mumbai. They had travelled to the Philippines and landed in Mumbai on March 2. These two were among a group of 10 people who had travelled to the Philippines.

Authorities have said that the next 14 days are crucial in terms of epidemic stages.

"We are between stage 1 and stage 2. We are trying to prevent the spread from reaching stage 3 for which we have to take precautions like quarantine, contact tracing, mass awareness and to be vigilant," said Dr Daksha Shah, deputy health officer.
