The ideal diet for Type 2 diabetics

Geeta Premani says, “There is no ideal diet for type 2 diabetes but there is an ideal lifestyle which works for type 2 diabetes. The lifestyle changes which you can bring about are-

  • Healthy diet
  • Exercise
  • Reduced stress
  • Sound sleep
  • Small good habits
  • Regular meals

Follow an ideal lifestyle to control diabetes.”

Safety of intermittent fasting for people with diabetes

Geeta Premani states, “Intermittent fasting shows good results in some cases to control diabetes. This is especially seen in pre-diabetic and well-controlled diabetes. The fasting duration during intermittent fasting helps in removing the toxins of the body. The energy utilized for digestion instead helps in removing toxins during the fasting period. The body heals internally during the fasting window. There is an organ called the pancreas that is responsible for diabetes when it is not able to produce insulin in sufficient amounts. When there is fasting duration, it helps in recovering the functioning of the pancreas. It is safe in some conditions and must be done under the guidance of a health expert, doctor, and dietician. It should be taken care of if the sugar is uncontrolled as it can harm more than good.”

The best and worst foods to eat for people with Type 2 diabetes

Everything which we eat is going to break down glucose in the body.

  • Eat-in moderation
  • Lifestyle modifications
  • Balanced meals
  • Avoid white sugar because it causes inflammation in the body
  • Avoid bakery products
  • Avoid refined carbs
  • Take Fruits and vegetables
  • Take protein with dals and sabzi
  • Avoid rice and roti together
  • Choose one grain at a time
  • Choose meal order- start with salads.”

Geeta Premani says,” The blood sugar levels are -

  • Fasting blood sugar levels- Less than 100 mg/dl
  • Random blood sugar levels - Less than 200 mg/dl
