National Tourism Day 2023 - What tourism means for health

Tourism plays an important role in our lives, our health, and the development of our country. The National Tourism Day is celebrated to remind us of the same.

Today, we are celebrating National tourism day. National tourism day is celebrated on 25th January in India. The purpose of National Tourism Day is to increase public awareness about the significance of tourism. Tourism also contributes to the economy of our country. India is a diverse country, and it offers a various forms of tourism, such as cultural, adventure, nature, educational, and eco-tourism. The diversity of a country is a prime attraction for tourists. Tourism increases job opportunities, develops the infrastructure of the country, and increases growth in the economy.

Tourism basically means traveling to different places. Travel gives us wonderful experiences and new memories; it is always good to have experiences than materialistic things, because experience teaches us new things. Tourism also helps us understand and appreciate different cultures.

The process of spending time away from home and our chaotic lives gives us time to relax, have fun, and start fresh. In a way, tourism is beneficial for our health. Generally, we are living a busy life, either working or studying, and are not able to spend time with our family. But travel gives us this opportunity. One should always take some time out for small trips or vacations.

Travelling includes the physical movement of the body. Going to places, doing activities like hiking, surfing, skating, playing outdoor games on vacation will raise movement and flexibility in your body which eventually improves your physical fitness. While visiting new places, your body is exposed to different pathogen that creates stronger antibodies in a body which will boost your immune system. It also reduces the risk of heart attacks.

A Framingham Heart Study found that men and women undertaking an international trip abroad are less likely to suffer heart attacks and heart diseases. This is because they are more stress-free and less anxious compared to those who don’t travel abroad.

Tourism also improves your mental health. If you feel depressed, lost, or stuck in life, then take a break, go on a vacation, explore new places, and meet new people; this will reduce your stress and anxiety, which will broaden your capability of thinking and can also give you a new perception of things. You can choose the place of your choice; do activities that you like, connect with nature, and go to spiritual places that give you peace of mind and new hope. All this has a positive impact on your mental health.

“Certainly, travel is more than the seeing of sights; it is a change that goes on, deep and permanent, in the ideas of living.” – Miriam Beard
