World Psoriasis Day - 29th October 2022

Every year, individuals from all over the world come together to promote psoriatic disease awareness and call for action. While more than ten years ago, October 29 has been designated as World Psoriasis Day. Today, more than 50 nations mark World Psoriasis Day.

World Psoriasis Day is observed to honour those who have psoriasis or psoriatic arthritis and has been successful in raising awareness of the suffering of millions of psoriasis patients worldwide. The two key factors because of which psoriasis takes place are genetics and the immune system.

Living with the psoriatic disease has a substantial impact on one's mental health, which is becoming more widely acknowledged. This is a result of the day-to-day challenges of having the psoriatic disease as well as a physical manifestation of the inflammation that produces it.

Psoriasis signs and symptoms 

  • Rashes or areas of inflamed, red skin, inflamed skin, often covered with loose, silver-colored scales.
  • Skin that is scratchy, uncomfortable, and prone to bleeding or cracking.
  • Problems with your fingernails and toenails - Tiny spots of blood when the affected skin is scraped (begin to crumble or detach).
  • Plaques of scaly skin on the scalp.

Psoriasis is not contagious. You cannot pass the skin condition from one person to another. Touching a psoriatic lesion on another person will not cause you to develop the condition.

According to the National Center for Biotechnology Information “Psoriasis has a prevalence ranging from 0.2% to 4.8%. The exact etiology is unknown, but it is considered to be an autoimmune disease mediated by T lymphocytes.Psoriasis is classified into two types. Type 1 psoriasis, which has a positive family history, starts before age 40 and is associated with HLA-Cw6; while type 2 psoriasis does not show a family history, presents after age 40, and is not associated with HLA-Cw6.”

  • Erythrodermic psoriasis
