The story is one of a kind of Ya-ALL ( meaning ‘revolution’ in Manipuri).

Sadam Hanjabam also the founder of (Ya-ALL) arranged a football-friendly match, especially for Manipur’s queer folks. The event unexpectedly became successful. The purpose of the event was to expand gender vocabulary in the state and give opportunities to the LGBTQ+ community.

One of the team members, goalkeeper Silheibi W, recalls facing discrimination from a young age. "Growing up, I was always told that I couldn't do certain things because I was trans, But playing football has given me a sense of empowerment and a way to prove people wrong."

Let’s take you to the current situation in the healthcare sector regarding transgender in India:

Transgender Healthcare Sector in India: challenges

1. Discrimination
One of the biggest challenges faced by transgender individuals in India is discrimination. They are often denied access to healthcare facilities, and even when they are allowed in, they may face ridicule and disrespect from healthcare providers. This can lead to a lack of trust in the healthcare system, and many transgender individuals may avoid seeking medical help altogether.

2. Inapt medical facilities
Inadequate medical facilities are also a major issue. Many transgender individuals may not have access to specialized clinics or hospitals that can provide the necessary care. This can lead to them having to travel long distances or pay exorbitant fees for treatment, which can be a significant burden.

Opportunities

1. There are also organizations working to improve transgender healthcare in India. The Transgender Welfare Equity and Empowerment Trust (TWEET) is one such organization. They provide healthcare services to transgender individuals, including hormone therapy and counselling. They also work to raise awareness among healthcare providers about the specific needs of transgender individuals.

2. Another organization is the Humsafar Trust, which provides a range of services to the LGBTQ+ community, including healthcare. They have a dedicated clinic that offers medical services for transgender individuals, including hormone therapy and HIV/AIDS treatment.

Transgender healthcare in India is a complex issue, with numerous challenges to overcome. Discrimination, lack of awareness, and inadequate medical facilities are just some of the hurdles that need to be addressed. However, there are also opportunities for improvement, and steps are being taken to address these issues.
