While Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami has already raised the issue with the central government, families in distress say they are yet to get some help. Foreign Minister S Jaishankar last night said that the government is working towards facilitating return of the stranded Indians.

In a recent turn of events, above 400 Tamil Nadu native fishermen stranded on boats in Coronavirus-hit Iran, have urged India to airlift them because the virus has already claimed 50 lives, infecting another 1000.

A SOS video shows the fishermen stranded on Iran's Kish Island are often heard making desperate involves help, seeking imperative intervention. They're running out of food and fuel supplies and that they do not have masks to guard themselves.

While Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami has already raised the difficulty with the central government, families in distress say they're yet to urge some help.

Similar appeals are made by around 60 fishermen from Kerala, who are stuck in Azalur. "We are stranded at Azalur in Iran. thanks to the outbreak of coronavirus during this country, we are confined to our rooms and can't leave," a person says in an SOS video on social media, as he pans around to point out around 21 fishermen standing during a room.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has written to the secretary of state Dr S Jaishankar saying many Indian fishermen are trapped in Iran's Azalur - of which around 60 are from Kerala.

Last week, many Kashmiri students stranded within the country had sent out a desperate appeal for evacuation.

Foreign Minister S Jaishankar last night said that the govt is functioning towards facilitating the return of the stranded Indians. "Working on the difficulty of Indians in Iran anxious to return thanks to #COVID19. Have seen many tweets during this regard. We are collaborating with the Iranian authorities to line up a screening process for the return of Indians. (1/2)," he wrote during a tweet.
