We have all heard this famous proverb - ‘An apple a day keeps the doctor away.’ 150 years ago, people genuinely believed in the miracle of the apple. The proverb at that time went like this, “Eat an apple on going to bed and you’ll keep the doctor from earning his bread.” A medium-sized apple contains approximately 25 grams of carbs, 1 gram of protein and no fats.

But have you wondered the truth behind this statement? Here’s the answer to why an apple holds the power to great immunity and health.

1. Provider of Antioxidants

Apples contain a decent amount of antioxidants. It helps give your skin a radiant glow. The antioxidants can also prevent the risk of getting cancer, including breast cancer, oral cavity and oesophagal.

2. Immunity Booster

An apple has 14% of Vitamin C, which is an immunity-boosting vitamin. Apart from this, it has anti-inflammatory properties that help improve your digestion. Apples also contain a good amount of fibre that can help in the absorption of essential nutrients.

3. Lowers Blood Pressure and High Cholesterol

Many studies have shown that there is a link between the consumption of apples and the reduced risk of cardiovascular diseases. The fibre present in apples can prevent the buildup of cholesterol in blood vessels.

4. Prevents Alzheimer’s Disease

Apples have flavonoids that are known to prevent the onset of Alzheimer’s disease. Having a diet with flavonoid-rich food can help delay the disease by 2 to 4 times.

5. Coffee Substitute

An apple has 13 grams of natural sugar. Because of the sugar content, an apple is more effective in keeping you awake than a cup of coffee. This is a good alternative for people who want to quit caffeine and need a healthier and effective substitute. The sugar and vitamins in the apple get slowly released into the body, making you feel awake for longer.
