As the economy slowly opens and the festival has begun, many are experiencing anxiety over social meetings. Here are 5 ways one can deal with their social anxiety or social phobia.

The pandemic forced many of us to stay within our own homes. Now as the economy slowly opens and the festival has begun, many are experiencing anxiety over social meetings. People are also experiencing Post COVID Stress Disorder. This social anxiety or social phobia causes nervousness and fearfulness in people. Here are 5 ways you can control your anxiety to an extent and enjoy the interaction with your friends and family members.

Worrying over the virus

Many are fearful that interacting with people will make them exposed to viruses. This is a valid concern. But if you are fearful of meeting people even with masks on, then the problem lies somewhere else. Getting professional help is ideal in this situation.

Prepare in Advance

Many a time when we face an unexpected situation our body reacts negatively. It is ideal in such situations to make sure we prepare ourselves in advance. The pre-planning can take away the element of surprise, making one more relaxed, open and engaging.

Purposeful Breathing

When you get fearful of such situations, it is a good idea to take some time out and practise purposeful breathing. In this, you need to take deep breaths. Deep breathing can help you relax and not get too overwhelmed.

Exercise

Exercise is known to boost the release of dopamine that can help you feel good. Physical activity is known for reducing anxiety. One can join a gym or practise yoga at home. Walking in the morning too will help you feel better and help you deal with social phobia.

Encourage Yourself

Although it might look tempting to avoid going out, make sure you encourage yourself to take small steps. Be gentle and patient with yourself when it comes to social situations. Getting instant results is highly unlikely, so give yourself ample time.

If you are extremely fearful of social situations then it is better to consult with a psychologist and get the right solutions.
