A new name for monkeypox to be announced soon- WHO declares

Monkeypox is creating havoc and spreading these days. WHO is constantly monitoring the spread of monkeypox worldwide. Let us check the new update why is the monkey pox name being changed?

A new name for Monkeypox may be announced soon. Monkeypox is a virus that has spread very rapidly in some countries, especially at a time when the world is moving towards getting relief from Corona. The World Health Organization (WHO) said earlier this week that it was working with its colleagues and experts around the world to change the name of the virus.

Why are you trying to change the name of Monkeypox?

One possible reason behind the name change could be discrimination, which has been associated with infections since the month of May. The virus was initially limited to most African countries but has now spread to parts of Europe and America. However, the WHO is trying to find out how this disease spread.

WHO Chief Tedros Aghanom Ghebreyesus has been quoted by the United Nations as saying that the WHO, together with its colleagues and experts from around the world, is working on changing the name of the monkeypox virus, to find out its causes. We can announce the new name as soon as possible.

The name may come by next week

He said the outbreak of monkeypox is unusual and worrying. For this reason, I have decided to set up an emergency committee under the International Health Regulations next week to assess whether the disease is classified as a public health emergency in view of international concern.

The virus spread in 30 countries

Let us tell you that till now monkeypox has spread in more than 30 countries and surprisingly it has never been reported in these countries before. So far, more than 1900 cases of monkeypox have been reported and most of these cases have come from Europe.
