Andhra Pradesh and Telengana still experiencing large number of fresh cases

In Andhra Pradesh, nine thousand six hundred and fifty two (9,652) new Covid- 19 positive cases have been recorded during the last 24 hours. At least 56,090 samples were tested during the period.

Nine thousand two hundred and eleven ( 9,211) persons have recovered and been discharged from various Covid hospitals in the State during the past 24 hours as per the AP State Covid Nodal Officer.

A total of 3,06,261 Covid positive cases have been recorded so far in the State, 2,18,311 persons have recovered and discharged from various Covid hospitals across the State and 85,130 persons are under treatment. 2820 covid deaths have been reported in the state so far.

Andhra Pradesh’s COVID-19 tally crossed the three lakh-mark on Tuesday with 9,652 new infections and 88 deaths reported in the last 24 hours. While the tally climbed to 3,06,261, the death toll went up to 2,820. With this, Andhra Pradesh has become the third State in the country to witness over three lakh infections after Maharashtra and neighbouring Tamil Nadu. It took 160 days for the state to go from one to three lakh (cases) after the first person tested positive for the contagion on March 12 but the last one lakh came in quicker pace in just 11 days.

 Meanwhile, Telangana continued to witness an upward trend of coronavirus cases with 1,763 fresh additions, pushing the state’s tally of positive cases to 95,700. With eight more fatalities the toll rose to 719, a state government bulletin said on Wednesday, providing data as of 8 PM on August 18. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), the COVID-19 hotspot in the state, witnessed 484 infections, cases being reported. The GHMC was followed by Medchal-Malkajgiri-169, Rangareddy-166 and Warangal Urban with 88 cases, it said.

Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan on Tuesday stressed the need to conduct adequate number of COVID-19 tests in the state, saying eradication of the virus would be difficult without sufficient testing. She reiterated the WHO’s mantra of testing, tracking and treating to effectively fight against COVID-19.

To promote blood plasma donation, Cyberabad Police in association with Soceity for Cyberabad Security Council (SCSC) Tuesday felicitated 'plasma warriors' who donated plasma to recipients post their recovery from Covid 19.

Attending the event, Indian film director S.S. Rajamouli, Indian Film composer M.M. Keeravani were felicitated with a memento by Commissioner of Police, Cyberabad, Sri VC Sajjanar, IPS., in presesnce of SCSC General secretary Krishna yedula and other Police officers. Film Director Rajamouli said: "Plasma Therapy is the Brahmastra for Covid Patients. Plasma is the only solution till the vaccine is invented".
