Balancing Two Joys: My Journey as a Teacher and a Mom

▴ teachers day
My journey as a pregnant teacher has been a series of twists and turns, highs and lows. It has taught me resilience, the importance of a strong support system, and the significance of pursuing one's true calling.

Being a teacher is often seen as a tough but fulfilling job that demands patience, dedication and a commitment to nurturing young minds. Now, imagine adding another role to this mix – that of a mother. As I reflect on the last ten years of my life, I want to share my journey of handling the joys and trials of being a pregnant teacher and how I found a way to strike a balance between my responsibilities to my students and my new role as a mother.

The Early Hurdles as a Young Teacher
My teaching journey began with great enthusiasm. Fresh out of college, I was eager to make a positive impact on my student’s lives. However, the realities of the classroom were more challenging than I had ever envisioned. Dealing with classroom management, demanding parents, and long hours left me often feeling overwhelmed and utterly drained.

The Decision to Take a Pause
After a few years of teaching, I reached a point of exhaustion. Burnout and frustration were taking a toll on me. It was during this challenging phase that I made a decision to step away from teaching and explore other career avenues. I needed a change, a fresh start.

Finding My Way Back
During my break from teaching, I got married, and life took a new turn. I yearned for fulfilment beyond my job, and my marriage opened up a beautiful new chapter. However, fate had other plans. Just a few months into my marriage, my husband and family encouraged me to return to teaching. After much thought, I decided to give it another shot.

Rediscovering My Passion
Returning to the classroom was both exhilarating and intimidating. I wondered if I still had the same enthusiasm and patience to be a teacher. To my pleasant surprise, not only did I rekindle my passion, but life experiences enriched it. I formed deeper connections with my students.

The Pregnancy Surprise
Life had another delightful surprise in store for me during this period - I found out I was pregnant. Initially, I felt overwhelmed at the thought of juggling motherhood and a teaching career. However, deep down, I knew that I couldn't stay away from the profession that had once ignited my passion.

Balancing Teaching and Motherhood
My journey as a pregnant teacher wasn't without its challenges. I had to adjust my teaching schedule to accommodate doctor's appointments and maternity leave. There were moments of fatigue and discomfort, but the support of my fellow teachers and the school administration made a lot of difference.

The Beautiful Chaos of Motherhood
A year has gone by since the birth of my son. It's been a whirlwind of sleepless nights, diaper changes, and heartwarming baby giggles. Through it all, I've continued to teach, but with a fresh perspective. Motherhood has made me more understanding and patient, qualities that have, in turn, made me a better teacher.

Rediscovering Satisfaction in the Classroom
Returning to the classroom after maternity leave felt like coming back home. The challenges that once seemed difficult now appeared manageable, and my outlook had evolved. I found renewed joy in teaching, knowing that I was not only shaping the future of my students but also setting an example for my son about the importance of resilience and following one's passion.

My journey as a pregnant teacher has been a series of twists and turns, highs and lows. It has taught me resilience, the importance of a strong support system, and the significance of pursuing one's true calling. Today, as I look back on the last decade, I am proud to say that I have successfully raised my son while continuing my noble profession as a teacher. It's a journey I wouldn't exchange for anything, for it has made me a better teacher, a stronger mother, and a more contented individual.
