Bihar based startup White Paper Research & Analysis Pvt Ltd. conducts situation analysis of Albinos

June 13th - International Albinism Awareness Day Special Feature -In India we look at people with Albinism in delight because of their foreign looks. How being different impacts, the mental framework of people with Albinism was surveyed by White Paper Research and Analysis Pvt Ltd. so that society treats albinos with more mindfulness.

White Paper Research and Analysis Pvt Ltd. is a startup based in Madhepura, Bihar. Sachchidanand Yadav and Nand Shwetanshu Parthsarthi are the Directors of the organization. The startup has been functioning since the year 2017. The organization focuses on social & market research and analysis. In the year 2019, the organization conducted research on people with Albinism. It was a challenging task as the subjects of the study (albinos) were not so easy to trace in the sample states which comprised Jharkhand, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal . 

According to the report an estimated 1 in 17000 people all over the world suffer from Albinism which is a genetic disorder. This disorder signifies lack of melanin due to which the colour of the skin, eyes, and hair are completely white. Albinism is common in countries like India, Korea, China, Japan, Sub-Saharan Africa and America. UN Human Rights Council adopted a resolution in 2013 to prevent discrimination and attacks on people with Albinism. The Government of India has included Albinism in the list of disabilities. Since the number of cases of Albinism in India is at an all-time high Jan, Vikas Samiti, a well-known NGO entrusted White Paper Research & Analysis Pvt. Ltd. to come up with a Situation Analysis Report so that health, safety, education, employment and non-discrimination, can be ensured by providing appropriate recommendation to the government to extend necessary support and educating people with facts. 

Key Findings of Situation Analysis Report:

  • 47.5 % students faced problems like rude behaviour of parents of other children, teachers and support staff in school, isolation, and a sense of fear about them amongst schoolmates.
  • Lack of cooperation, isolation, mental harassment, rejection of job and low salary are the main problems that are faced in professional life by albinos.
  • 58.7% albinos described some or the other form of discrimination in society like isolation, untouchability, refusal, abusive language, fear from them and mental torture. 
  • 83.8% of albinos do not like mingling with others in society due to shame or to avoid mistreatment. 

The findings are eye-openers and the entire expansive report provides the government, NGOs and society at large an avenue to improve conditions of people with Albinism. White Paper Research and Analysis Pvt. Ltd. plays a pivotal role in this change initiation towards positivity.
