Bindas Bol with Dr. Kumar Kamble - Pride Month Series- Episode 2 - Communication with LBGTQ community

It is important to accept and welcome the LBGTQ community with equal respect as part of society. This will ease out the communication with the LBGTQ community and take it into the next chance for the new generation.

We might come across LGBTQ many times in our lives. We may face difficulties while communicating with them. Our communication should be good and addressed in the right way. It is important to be kind to them as they might be reacting in a sensitive manner which may be annoying or can affect them mentally.

Every Thursday, we at Medicircle conduct a special series called Bindas Bol with Dr.Kumar Kamble. We have conducted special series with Dr.Kumar Kamble in sexual awareness, de-addiction series, and now Pride Month series for June.

Dr.Kumar Kamble is not only a professional sexologist but also a de-addiction specialist. Dr. Kamble has special expertise and experience in working with the King Edward Memorial Hospital in the Deaddiction center for 4 years.

At Medcircle, we are presenting the Ask The Expert Series on Pride Month titled Bindas Bol with Dr. Kumar Kamble. Today, we are going to discuss Pride Month. Also, we are going to discuss LBGTQ, its existence, and communication with them in the right manner.

Consider the third gender too

Dr. Kumar Kamble says, “We are not educated about the LGBTQ community. We have always been educated about “HE“ and “SHE''.” It is important to upgrade our knowledge. We should not assume the gender identity and orientation of others.

The reproductive organs are considered as the genitals. It has been divided into the following types

Male genitalia  Female genitalia  Mixed

It is important to look into these aspects from society and your point of view. The aspects are :

Gender  Physical appearance  The attraction can be same-sex attraction or opposite-sex attraction.

These should be considered while communicating with not only LGBTQ and all. Do not presume the individual gender, attraction, and preferences. Talk and communicate without presumption."

Different aspects to be taken into consideration while communication

Dr. Kumar Kamble informs, “The basic information or aspects to be considered are name and family instead of gender. Even in school acceptance to the third gender should be given preference. We should have correct knowledge about addressing an individual correctly. It is important not to consider the dressing sense of an individual. This will lead to preconceived notions. Bring about small changes and steps in life which can change society."

Communication with same-sex attraction people

Dr. Kamble, “We should not give preference to the gender involved in the communication. Instead, focus on other positive aspects of the individual like the roles and responsibilities. Do not give importance to the orientation and the gender of an individual you are communicating with. We should not give them the advice to change their orientation. Accept them the way they are. Stay away from preconceived notions. Gender identity, equality, and orientation education should be given in school education itself at the start. Even in medical literature, limited evidence and training are available for the same. We should not hold our thoughts back about the LGBTQ community. We should accept them openly.”

Role of Media for accepting LBGTQ community

Dr. Kumar informs, “Media plays an important role in portraying the LBGTQ community. There is a limited number of movies projecting the acceptance of the LBGTQ community in the right manner.”

Legal acceptance of LBGTQ community

Dr. Kamble says, “This entire month is dedicated to the LBGTQ community. Pride month should be given importance with correct facts. Legal marriage of the LBGTQ community is still not acceptable in India. We need to create awareness with basics about the LBGTQ community. It is important to be welcoming and move on to the next level this pride month. Awareness and normalization of society are just about the LBGTQ community.”
