India has now become the world's seventh worst-hit country in terms of Coronavirus cases after US, Brazil, Russia, UK, Spain and Italy.

 The Indian Council of Medical Research, ICMR has said that a total one lakh 25 thousand 428 samples of corona virus were tested in the last 24 hours. With this, figure of total number of tests reached to 37 lakh 37 thousand 27 in the country. Meanwhile, ICMR is continuously scaling up its testing facilities for COVID-19 by giving approval to government and private laboratories.

As of now, total 669 laboratories across India have been given approval to conduct the test for COVID-19 including 466 government laboratories and 203 private laboratories' chains.
The fourth phase of the nationwide lockdown came to an end on Sunday, India registered the highest ever number of cases in a single day. 8,380 new cases were reported in the last 24 hours as a result the country's tally climbed to 1,82,143, while the death toll rose to 5,164 after reporting 193 new fatalities.

India now ranks as the world's seventh worst-hit country in terms of Coronavirus cases after US, Brazil, Russia, UK, Spain and Italy.

There are 89,995 COVID-19 active cases currently as 86,984 people have recovered and the recovery rate now stands at 47.75 per cent.

Commenting on the "rapid" rise in the COVID-19 cases, a senior ICMR official said, "Since lots of restrictions have been lifted, so it's natural that cases would increase. We need not worry about the increasing trend as the country is witnessing a promising recovery rate."

"When we are testing above 1.25 lakh samples in a day and diagnosis of 8,380 positive cases is not a worrying factor as it accounts to 6.68 per cent cases of the total samples," the ICMR official said, adding that people now need to be more careful as most of the curbs have been lifted.

Of the total 5,164 deaths, Maharashtra ranks first in the tally with 2,197 deaths, followed by Gujarat, then Delhi , Madhya Pradesh, Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

According to the data provided by the Health Ministry, the highest number of confirmed cases in the country are reported from Maharashtra (65,168), followed by Tamil Nadu (21,184), Delhi (18,549), Gujarat (16,343), Rajasthan (8,617), Madhya Pradesh (7,891) and Uttar Pradesh (7,445). The number of COVID-19 cases has risen up to 5,130 in Bengal, 3,636 in Bihar, followed by 3,569 in Andhra Pradesh.
