Whether you drink normal water at room temperature in winter or by adding ice in summer, cold water makes you fat. Drinking lukewarm water also protects you from infection with obesity.

A study published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism found that drinking cold water can help you lose weight. The researchers did not leave any rationale for this.

Whereas, we should drink lukewarm water in winter and avoid drinking cold water even in summer or else it increases obesity.

The researchers of this study left no stone unturned to prove that drinking cold water can actually help you lose weight because the body has to burn more calories at that time to maintain a stable temperature. Whereas science also obeys the mother every time.

The only benefit to teasing her was that she learned to google things. This new-acquired skill boosted her confidence and unfortunately, she found proof of her claim.

Now the real evidence of cold water

'The Complete Book of Ayurvedic Home Remedies' states that drinking cold water during meals or at any other time is unhealthy and can lead to weight gain, along with many others. There can be problems too.

Before drinking cold or chilled water, know these tips

The reasoning behind this is that the normal temperature of our body is around 37 degrees Celsius. When we drink cold water, especially while eating food, then it reduces the body temperature. As a result, the body uses its energy to bring the body back to normal temperature instead of digesting the food.

The book also describes how cold water and other cold beverages damage your blood vessels and stomach. This makes the stomach unable to break down food properly and the undigested food starts to ferment, which can lead to gastric problems, flatulence, abdominal pain, and water retention.

According to the book, cold water prevents fat from breaking down.

Coldwater can spoil your overall health. According to Ayurvedic and Chinese philosophy, cold water creates an imbalance in the body and slows down metabolism. If you are not ready to give up your habit of drinking cold water just for this reason, then we tell you some other disadvantages.

According to a study, drinking cold water can thicken your mucus and increase the problem of colds. Especially in winter- when it is more comfortable to drink hot water.

Another study published in PubMed Central states that cold water makes it difficult for food to pass through the food pipe. Due to which the food reaches directly into the stomach. Even though it sounds normal, this condition is very painful.

So, the next time you raise a glass of cold water or question your mother's advice, think about Ayurveda.
