Elderly abuse calls for special attention and must be addressed at correct time

Elderly people are the main framework and support system of society. It is important to observe respect elderly to ensure that they are treated well.

It is important to voice out our concerns against elderly abuse and those suffering from it. The World Elderly Abuse Awareness Day was officially recognized by the United Nations General Assembly in December 2011 after the request was put forth by the International Network for the prevention of elderly abuse. Elders must be given respect. We should always remember the efforts put by our parents in nurturing and educating us throughout our life. It's time to acknowledge their importance and recognize what they are entitled to with their superior respectable position.

Elderly Abuse needs special attention 

Elderly abuse can take place in various forms such as physical, psychological and emotional, or financial abuse. According to the United Nations, around 1 in 6 elderly people experience some form of abuse. It is predicted to be on the high rise as the population increases worldwide. Elderly abuse must be given attention and needs to be addressed if any person is suffering from it. It is a global social issue that must be eliminated from society for the betterment of people. It affects millions of elderly people around the world. Many elderly people are unable to voice out their concerns about the same and they remain quiet in fear suffering silently from it. 

Elderly abuse is on the high rise worldwide

We all understand that the global population is increasing. The population of the old age group is growing rapidly and aging. With aging, many problems crop up in life like disorders and illness. The health disorders may not be confined to physical problems but also to mental health issues. Let us not forget the various causes that can hit the mental health of the elderly age groups. One such important cause is elderly abuse. The global population aged 60 years and older will increase double fold, from 900 million in 2015 to about 2 billion in 2050. 

The importance to control Elderly abuse 

The pandemic has affected many of us physically and emotionally. With all of us staging confined to the houses, right from working from home to online schooling classes, aloof we are facing mental health issues. Let us not forget the elderly age group as well who ate confined to home this pandemic. Elderly people who use to step out for the morning walk or socialize with their peers and friends at the park are confined home. We should be careful about their mental health in this pandemic. Neglecting your elderly family member’s health this pandemic is also termed as “ Elderly abuse” 

Do not neglect the health of elderly people 

As age advances, there can be a lot of health problems due to stress. Many physical and mental ailments arise with age which calls for special attention. We should not neglect our family members such as parents or elderly members if they are facing health issues. 

It is important to pat respect the elderly who need care and support. Elderly people are sensitive in nature just like kids. They need the same care that you received when you were a kid. So step ahead to help elderly people physically, socially, and emotionally which can be a good deed in return.
