First National Research Conference in Corporate Governance held at NALSAR University

CSI CCGRT - Hyderabad together with NALSAR University of Law organised the three-day National Conference called Corp Con 2024. ICSI to launch its first ADR centre at Hyderabad before 31st March 2024to support the nation’s judicial ecosystem thus strengthening the overall governance ecosystem:Manish Gupta.

Hyderabad, January 07, 2024….The Institute of Company Secretaries of India(ICSI), a national professional body in India under the ownership of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Government of India to promote, regulate and develop the profession of company secretaries in India together with NALSAR University of Law, the National Academy of Legal Studies and Research is a public law school and a National Law University organised the First National Research Conference in Corporate Governance called Corp Con 2024. 

 

Disclosing this addressing a press conference at NALSAR University at Shamirpet on Sunday, CS Manshi Gupta, President, of the ICSI said the" Developments and Trends in Corporate Laws and Governance" conference was a premier gathering of Company Secretaries, Advocates, legal experts, scholars, industry leaders, corporate professionals and policymakers who are at the forefront of excellence in corporate governance. The conference which concluded on Sunday acted as a platform for participants to exchange ideas, gain valuable insights, and network with peers to discuss and analyse the latest trends and advancements in the field of corporate law and governance.

 

CS Manshi Gupta addressed the press conference along with CS B Narasimhan, Vice President, the ICSI;  Prof.(Dr.) Sri Krishna Deva Rao, Vice Chancellor, NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad and  CS R Venkata Ramana, Conference Program Director

 

The Conference also witnessed 60 Research Paper Presentations from Researchers and Scholars who presented their latest findings and offered a sneak peek into the emerging areas of interest within corporate law and finance. The outcomes of the conference will be submitted to concerned Union Governments as its recommendations. 

 

Speaking on the importance of holding the Conference, CS Manish Gupta, President, The ICSI, said “Conferences like these are an opportunity to bring the knowledge and expertise of industry, academia and the regulators together to stay abreast of the cutting-edge research in Corporate Law and Governance and help bring necessary changes in the existing Laws for the benefit of all stakeholders”.

 

He also spoke about the latest initiatives and developments in the institution and the profession.

 

It just presented its 23rd UCSI National Awards for Excellence in Corporate Governance in New Delhi. 

 

The Institute of Company Secretaries of India gave away the 23rd National Awards for Excellence in Corporate Governance, in New Delhi, on 5 January 2024, in the august presence of Shri Om Birla, Hon’ble Speaker, Lok Sabha.

 

 The ICSI inaugurated its 3rd Centre for Corporate Governance, Research and Training (CCGRT) in Kolkata last month. 

 

It organised its 2nd International Conference, of ICSI Overseas Centre-London, a unique one last year with the theme Strengthening Global Governance for an Equitable, Inclusive, and Sustainable Future. 

 

ICSI International ADR Centre, a new initiative was launched at its  50th National Convention with the intent of creating a conducive ecosystem – one which aids the existing judicial structure – helps in the de-clogging of the courts and provides justice at a speed unparalleled. 

 

The first Centre to be opened in Hyderabad by March 31st this year. The idea is to take this initiative across the various cities possessing good infrastructural facilities. The ADR Centre is ICSI’s attempt to support the nation’s judicial ecosystem thus strengthening the overall governance ecosystem, Manish Guptha added. 

 

With its Vision “to be a global leader in promoting good Corporate Governance” and its Mission “to develop high calibre professionals facilitating good Corporate Governance”, the Institute has set forth its foot in the international arena by setting up ICSI Overseas Centres in UAE, USA, UK, Singapore, Australia, and Canada

 

The male and female ratio in ICSI is 50:50.  When it was started in 1968 it was male-dominated.  Now both genders equally drive its growth

 

 ICSI has 72 chapters in India.  It has two research wings.  It has 71,000 members across India and 2.5 lakh registered students.  It also has 6 overseas centres in Australia, the USA, the UK, Dubai, Singapore and Canada. 

 

What is so interesting here is out of 1,05,000 Company Secretaries in the world 71,000 are in India alone.  Telangana has 5500 students and Hyderabad has 5000 students and 2600 members. South India has 43000 students and 4000 members. 

 

ISCI signed MoUs with 200 plus universities across the country.  Soon it plans to sign MoUs with three Telangana-based universities such as Kakatiya University, Osamina University and others.  It has already signed MoU with NALSAR.

 

Prof.(Dr.) Sri Krishna Deva Rao, Vice Chancellor, NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad said that NALSAR is entering into Silver Jubilee Year.  A grand celebration is on the cards.  It also plans to set up a city centre.  The new Chief Minister is very positive about our activities, he shared

 

Insolvency, Mediation, Bankruptcy, Corporate Phiantrophy are subjects in demand and they are subjects of future. 

 

NALSAR plans to set up at its Campus An Arbitration Centre as well as a Mediation Centre, the Vice Chancellor shared.
