Floods affecting the startup ecosystem in Bangalore

Floods are a cause of concern in Bengaluru. This has affected the startup ecosystem and the business of Bengaluru. Let us read the details on the impact caused by floods on the startups as the founders share their view points.

Due to incessant rains for the last week, a flood-like situation has arisen in Bangalore. Many posh areas of the city have also been flooded with so much water that boats have to be used to rescue people. Due to the floods, roads have become inundated in areas like Bellandur, Sarjapur Road, Whitefield, Outer Ring Road, and the BEML Layout of the city. This has severely affected the quality of life. This has caused a major impact on businesses and startups.

Bangalore startup ecosystem

Let us tell you everything about the Bangalore floods and the start-up ecosystem in Bangalore.

Amid reports of funding crunch and layoffs, the startup ecosystem in Bengaluru is thriving on the back of competition and the job market is still buzzing. But, now let us not forget the floods which have caused a major impact on the start-up ecosystem in Banglore.

Real-time value is a high priority

Investors are no longer paying attention to long-term growth rates. The focus of the investors is now only on the current real income. With the status right now of floods affecting Bengaluru, this seems highly impossible on a real-time basis.

Sources say investors are now becoming more cautious and startups have to be more accountable due to global trends and fears of an economic slowdown in Bangalore in the coming year. However, this has not changed the startup climate.

All the more, the flood scenario has created major havoc in the country.

Commenting on the trend, here are some views from startup founders. Let us check them out.

Subhasish Sircar- Founder & CEO - Health Vectors states-

"We were not affected much due to the location of our office. Our office is located in the HSR Layout in Bengaluru. Some employees couldn't come for a few days but we really were not affected by the floods. For 1 or 2 days we did face some problems. One day of leave was also given to the employees.”

He further added,” The areas which got affected the most have a lot to work on and see how they can fix it. The bigger problem is people who have problems are going to solve it by directing water somewhere else and someone else will face this problem.”

Rupam Das, Founder & CEO of Acculi Labs says-

"Floods, droughts, famine, and pandemics are natural phenomena. No Urban city can be made for calamities. They are to be addressed as the calamity happens. There is a cost attached to any infrastructure. For instance, tons of masks are lying unused after COVID.
There is always a positive side. There is no point in complaining. One can come up with innovative solutions such as rainwater harvesting etc during the testing times. Administration in no city can create a full-calamity-proof city. There might be a severe earthquake tomorrow.
Therefore, one should either stay in nature, like our ancestors, or take any calamity as an opportunity to take accountability and see what one can do.
Startup or no startup, calamities are part of nature. We must accept nature with its beauty and calamities and live life as it comes. Facilities irrespective of how much one gets will never be enough because nature will remain unpredictable."

Dr. Arun Shastry - Founder - Hanugen Therapeutics Private Limited says-

“We didn't get affected much due to the location. Areas which got affected were the IT fields. So we didn't have any issues in our office area.”

Pranay Suyash- co-founder - of Medpiper technologies says-

“Medpiper faced no problem regarding the Bengaluru floods due to the office location.”

Abhishek Reddy Gujjala - Co-founder & CEO - Criador Labs states-

"I stay in North Bangalore which was unaffected by floods. Hence can't really comment on the same."
