The State records seven fresh COVID-19 cases

Goa’s Green Zone classification is now under threat after seven fresh cases recorded on Wednesday.  Goa declared it had zero COVID-19 cases on May 1.

“All tested positive,” confirmed health minister Vishwajit Rane. All seven are stable and being treated.

Of the seven, five belong to one family: husband and wife, their son and daughter, and a one-year-old granddaughter from a second daughter. They were returning from Sholapur back to their home when they were tested at a north Goa facility, according to the state’s testing protocol.

The other two are independent cases. One is a truck driver who was returning from Gujarat after picking drums for a small-scale industry in Goa since the industries were now open. And the other a driver returning from Mumbai.

TrueNat Covid-19 initially tested all seven positive and were then sent to Goa Medical College late night for the second RT-PCR confirmatory tests at ESI COVID-19 hospital.

Goa thus far has tested 6151 persons of whom 14 have tested positive. Presently, the State now has seven active cases.

Goa Govt has been risking the lives of Goenkars towards Coronavirus, says MLA Rohan Khaunte.

He reportedly said that Goa government has been risking the lives of Goenkars with its lackadaisical approach towards Coronavirus! A train from Delhi will reach Goa where only 400 passengers are Goenkars. Rest are people from other states who are coming to their second homes in Goa! Is this train being run to facilitate entry of these 'well-connected people'? Goenka coming home from across the world are being asked to pay for quarantine while we bring in more outsiders and put lives of everyone at risk We are still unaware of what checks does the government have in place for Goans disembarking from red zones! If the govt continues to behave irresponsibly, very soon our state will go to being a Red Zone!

The Chief Minister also took an indirect dig at his opponents saying people were critical of the government for its decision to quarantine seafarers. “We were criticised for quarantine of seafarers but it was only done as per MHA guidelines. It was not a political decision,” Sawant said.

The Chief Minister requested the seafarers, who have been sent home to strictly follow home quarantine for 14 days and to not venture out.
