Hypertension associated with erectile dysfunction

Dr. Sushant Srivastava is a nationally accredited Cardio-Vascular Surgeon. His areas of expertise involve aortic aneurysm surgery, including endovascular repairs, and complex vascular procedures on the aorta, carotid arteries, and lower lib vessels. He rose to national prominence after successfully performing bypass surgery on a 96-year-old patient, the oldest reported patient to have undergone this operation. His total experience now is over 9000 cases.

 Hypertension medicines cause erectile dysfunction

 Dr. Sushant Srivastava stated  “an individual who is suffering from hypertension will be having more chances of having erectile dysfunction compared to a normal individual. Some roles of medicines also cause there are some roles of medicines that also cause erectile dysfunction,  High blood pressure damages artery walls, causing them to harden and narrow, and reducing blood flow.  Medicine like diuretics or water pills (hydrochlorothiazide, spironolactone) and certain beta-blockers (like Atenolol) can cause erectile dysfunction.

The patient  suffering from erectile dysfunction with hypertension can be categorized into three groups :

  • Low risk (the patient having a controlled blood pressure )
  • Middle risk (the patient having a less controlled blood pressure)
  • High risk (The patient blood pressure  Is completely not controlled )

He further added “ The patient  with low-risk erectile dysfunction can be treated with  drugs and a healthy lifestyle but, We can not give the  same medication to the high-risk erectile dysfunction patient it will give a risk to the life ,Because the medication stimulates sexual desire so we can't give it to the patients who are already having poor blood pressure.

Treatment to maintain hypertension 

  •  Maintaining healthy lifestyle
  •  Decrease the salt in your diet. Aim to limit sodium to less than 2,300 milligrams    (mg) a day or less
  • Maintaining the cholesterol level
  • Regular physical activity 
  • Monitor your blood pressure 
  • Consult the doctors and mediated adequately

Hypertension  can be genetic or hereditary in nature

Dr. Sushant Srivastava explained “Hypertension tends to run in families. Individuals whose parents have hypertension have an elevated risk of developing the condition. Genes likely play some role about 30 to 40%  in high blood pressure, However, it is also likely that people with a family history of high blood pressure share common environments and other potential factors that increase their risks like the same unhealthy diet and lack of physical activity in their lifestyle.

Hypertension impact the body

  • There are no symptoms associated with hypertension
  • Regularly check up and follow up to maintain blood pressure 
  • Hypertension has a profound impact on the vital body organ
  • It can affect and damages artery walls
  • Deposition cholesterol in arteries  ("hardening of the arteries," occurs when fat, cholesterol and other substances build up in the walls of arteries)
  • Hypertension patients can have the risk of heart attack, heart failure, and sudden cardiac death.
  • It can affect the brain and can cause a stroke.
  • High blood pressure can constrict and narrow the blood vessels in the kidneys, which reduces blood flow and stops the kidneys from working well, it will cause kidney failure

 

Hypertension can happen in the younger generation

  "Young persons with higher blood pressure, high systolic number but a normal diastolic number, may have an excessively stiff aorta, which should not be ignored," says  Dr. Sushant. And adolescents who are associated with any condition, such as thyroid, or renal difficulties.



According to Dr. Sushant, Consult and examine the respective physicians and get the adequate test done to get first-line treatment for youngsters and as well as elder patients.
