Maharashtra in tight spot with 2,436 fresh Coronavirus cases

Among the entire coronavirus cases within the state, 31,972 alone were reported from Mumbai city

Maharashtra alone continues to account for maximum Coronavirus cases with 2,436 fresh COVID-19 cases on Monday, soaring the tally to 52,667. The national count includes 60 fatalities- 38 of them in Mumbai—surging State's toll to 1,695, reportedly reveals a state health department official.

The worst-hit State, however, also sigh a little relief as 1,186 recovery cases taking the number of recovered persons to 15,786.

The 60 fresh death cases include 38 from Mumbai, 11 from Pune, three from Navi Mumbai, two each from Thane city and Aurangabad city, one each from Solapur, Kalyan Dombivli and Ratnagiri.

One patient from Bihar also died in Maharashtra, he said.

Among the entire coronavirus cases within the state, 31,972 alone were reported from Mumbai city, where the price has crossed the 1,000-mark and reached 1,026, he said.

The worst-hit Mumbai Metropolitan Region, which incorporates Mumbai and surrounding satellite towns, has reported 40,438 cases and 1,154 deaths.

Presently the number of people in home-quarantine is 5,30,247 while, 35,479 are in institutional quarantine, the official said. After Mumbai, Pune city is second worst-hit where COVID-19 cases increased to 5 319 and fatalities to 260. The total virus-infected cases and casualty stand at 6,933 and 321, respectively, the official said.

The Nashik division has 1,618 cases and 103 deaths thanks to COVID-19. The Kolhapur division has recorded 527 cases and 6 deaths thus far, while the Aurangabad division has 1,508 cases and 49 fatalities, the official said.

So far, there are 577 cases and eight deaths within the Nagpur division.

51 COVID-19 infected from several states are under treatment in Maharashtra, while over a dozen succumbed to the virus. Surveillance of 66.01 lakh people is completed in 2,391 containment zones by 16,106 squads.
