What is malmas

It is also called the greater month or Purushottam month. According to astrological calculations, one month increases after every three years. In Hinduism, dates are calculated by two methods. Each Sun year is 365 days and about 6 hours, while the lunar year is considered to be 354 days. There is a difference of about 11 days between the two years, which becomes equal to about 1 month every three years. This one extra month has been named Adhikamas i.e. Malamas. It is also called Purushottam month.

Why is adhimas called

In Indian Hindu calculation, ie after three years in the Sun and Lunar year, there is a difference of about one month in both. This difference of one month is called Adhimas.

Why is called malamas

In this month, auspicious work is forbidden in Malamas. For example, marriage, marriage, etc. are prohibited. According to belief, it was initially called Malin month, which later came to be called Malamas.

Why is Purushottam month

According to religious beliefs, it is said that when sage munis counted time and one month came out extra. In such a situation, it was difficult to balance the Sun and Lunar year. When the sages requested the gods to become the lord of this one month, no one agreed to become one. After which the sages and sages urged Lord Vishnu to take the burden of this greater month on himself. So Lord Vishnu accepted it and it came to be called Purushottam month.
