Lockdown update across India as on July 23

In Manipur, complete statewide lockdown and curfew will begin from 2.00 P.M. today for 14 days. A State Cabinet Meeting chaired by the Chief Minister held last evening reviewed the COVID-19 situation in the state and decided to implement the complete lockdown as a preventive measure.

After the Emergency Cabinet Meeting held last evening, Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh announced that there will be a 14-day lockdown in the entire area of Manipur from this afternoon. The Chief Minister said that the decision to implement complete lockdown has been taken after some people, who do not have travel history, were found positive of COVID-19 in the state. He said, the government will enforce the lockdown and curfew strictly and appeal to the people of the state to cooperate with the decision of the government.

10 day lockdown imposed in Bhopal from 25th July
File PicIn Madhya Pradesh, the State government has imposed a ten-day lockdown in the capital Bhopal from 25th July, following a spike in the number of COVID-19 cases in the last few days.

The number of COVID-19 cases in the State climbed to 24,842 while the death toll mounted to 770.

State Home Minister Narottam Mishra told the media after the meeting of the State cabinet today that hotels and markets will also remain closed except for essential services during lockdown.

As per the State Health Department, all 52 districts have active cases. A total of 579 persons were discharged from hospitals yesterday taking the number of the recovered patients to 16,836.

The number of cases in Indore, the worst-hit district, rose to 6,339 and death toll to 300. The number of cases in Bhopal stood at 4,669 including 144 fatalities.

Meanwhile, there will be a ban on entry into the Nag Chandreshwar temple in Ujjain, which opens only on Nag panchami in a year. According to official information, keeping in view the government's guideline due to Corona pandemic, the district and temple administration has arranged live darshan through website and other modes.

West Bengal govt to impose bi-weekly lockdown in state till August
The West Bengal government has decided to impose a twice-a-week lockdown in the state till August to stem the rise in COVID-19 cases. The state's caseload rose to 47,030 and death toll mounted to 1,182 till Tuesday. The state government has announced that this week's bi-weekly lockdown will be imposed on July 23 and 25.

A meeting chaired by Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee arrived at this decision prompted by expert opinion that stressed the need to break the chain of infection.

Chhattisgarh: Fresh lockdown imposed in several urban areas amid surge in COVID-19 cases
In view of surge in cases of COVID-19, fresh lockdown restrictions have been imposed in many urban areas of Chhattisgarh from today.

A seven-day total lockdown has been re-imposed from today in Raipur, Surguja, Raigarh and Baloda Bazar districts of Chhattisgarh, Similar restrictions will come into effect in the urban areas of Durg, Korba and Bilaspur districts from tomorrow.

The roads of state capital Raipur wore a deserted look today. Law enforcing agencies in coordination with the district administration are strictly enforcing the lockdown. All shops except medical stores, government, semi-government and private offices remain closed during this phase of lockdown restrictions. The public transport service has been suspended. Essential services, however, will be exempted during this phase.

Traffic barricades have been installed at major traffic intersections in the city. Unnecessary movement in the streets is not allowed. The violators would be penalized.
